Waiting on the arrivals
In this Issue:

- SportsBIZ – summer offering for students
It’s the end of the week and we waiting on two big things: 1) the arrival of our students this weekend, and 2) the impending snow. While some of our Deacs had returned to campus early for recruitment, athletics, etc., the remainder of our students will get here sometime between now and Sunday night, as FDOC (First Day of Classes) is this coming Monday. And of course we are waiting on the predicted snow to arrive.
Midday, campus received a Wake Alert message that we will be closing at 3 p.m. today. Campus service hours will be adjusted due to the weather. Students can check websites for updated hours of operation for campus dining, the Wellbeing Center, ZSR library, Deacon Health, Mail Services and WFU shuttle services. See the message for more details. The Office of Residence Life and Housing sent a message with updated details for students moving in this weekend. I also saw this graphic about dinner tonight:
The weather forecast
From the WXII forecast I watched this morning, it looks like the snow will begin late afternoon/dinnertime/early evening. It is very cold and dry outside so they are suggesting all the snow will stick. This morning’s forecast was for 2-3 inches and that it might snow into early Saturday, but that should be it. Please encourage your students to be safe as they navigate the snow. And here’s one of my favorite weather funnies in honor of the coming storm.
SportsBIZ – summer offering for students
Yesterday’s Daily Deac mentioned one summer offering in the Business School – the Summer Management Program. For Deacs who are more interested in the business of sports, we have the SportsBIZ program. Here’s what my trusted source tells me about the program:
“SportsBIZ is the perfect way for students to feed their passion while learning all about the business side of this multibillion-dollar global industry. This intensive summer program features guest speakers from well-known brands like the ACC, The Walt Disney Company / ESPN, Marriott International, Wasserman, Dallas Cowboys, Milwaukee Bucks, NASCAR, and the PGA Tour, to name a few. Students will learn key business essentials as they are applied in the management of some of the industry’s most successful brands, and will work on a case competition focused on solving a real-world sports industry challenge.
LISTEN to Wake Forest students Rory Heslin and Grant Dangler share their experience in SportsBIZ last summer, as well as SportsBIZ faculty member, Dr. Justin Martin.

As we conclude this week, we wish everyone safe travels and minimal disruption. Remember that there are ample After Hours Resources for Deacs if needed, and we look forward to officially kicking off the semester with FDOC (First Day of Classes) on Monday.
