We started the week on a rainy note. It rained this morning on and off, but as I write this, it is sunny now.

Announcing Kimberley McAllister as Vice Provost for Research, Scholarly Inquiry, and Creative Activity

Provost Gillespie shared the following news with faculty and staff today:

“A. Kimberley McAllister, PhD, has been named inaugural Vice Provost for Research, Scholarly Inquiry, and Creative Activity (VPRSICA), effective September 1, 2024. McAllister will join Wake Forest from the University of California, Davis, where she currently serves as director of the Center for Neuroscience and Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Neurobiology, Physiology & Behavior.

As VPRSICA, McAllister will provide strategic leadership and vision as Wake Forest enters an exciting new phase of continued growth of its research enterprise. She will support research within Wake Forest’s teacher-scholar model, align research priorities with the University’s academic mission and strategic framework, strengthen research infrastructure and compliance, and identify opportunities for collaboration both within and beyond the University.”

We look forward to welcoming Vice Provost McAllister this fall!

’28 Message

This morning, the Office of Orientation, New Student and Transition programs sent out this message to our incoming ’28 students. This is part of their regular summer communications with new students. P’28s, you’ll get your weekly message tomorrow 🙂

Reminder: encourage your student to fill out the Space Planning virtual feedback form

I ran this item a week or so ago but wanted to put a reminder out there. We would love for your students to share their thoughts on priorities for outdoor spaces, study spaces, learning spaces, collaborative spaces, desired look and feel, and amenities. This is part of our the Near-Term Central Space Planning project.

Students can share their ideas in this virtual feedback opportunity, which runs through Friday, June 14. They will need to be logged in with their WFU email and password to be able to access the form, if memory serves. Thanks in advance for your help in getting our students’ voices represented!

ICYMI: Dean Pyatt of ZSR Library announces retirement

I had missed notice of this when it was first announced:

“After ten years of outstanding leadership, Z. Smith Reynolds Library Dean Tim Pyatt has announced that he will not seek another term as dean after his second five-year term ends on June 30, 2025. He will step down as dean, and, after a sabbatical year, retire from the University in 2026.

Since joining Wake Forest in 2015, Dean Pyatt has led many accomplishments; including, establishing services supporting open-access publishing, expanding the library’s instructional curriculum, increasing funding and community outreach, renewing library spaces, and forging impactful campus partnerships.”

I am an unabashed fangirl for the ZSR Library and all the amazing ways their talented staff of librarians supports our students. Many thanks to Dean Pyatt for his leadership!

Happy Pride

Last but certainly not least, this Proud Mom wants to wish a Happy Pride to all who celebrate this month!
