Fall Break is over – hope that your Deacs had a restorative few days, wherever they were. Today I have a handful of meetings, so I will get right to the news, and will be brief.

Israel-Palestine outreach website

The University has created a University website that shares resources related to the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis. On it, you will find Dr. Wente’s blog post on Friday: A guide in moments of crisis: ‘For Humanity’, as well as a University statement, list of resources, and more, including this quote that resonated with me personally:

“As we navigate the days and weeks ahead, let us continue to demonstrate care and empathy for each other and contribute to a supportive community environment where all members can study, learn, and work.”

Reminder of emergency testing tomorrow and Thursday

This is a reminder that tests of the Wake Alert emergency notification system will be conducted this week on Tuesday, Oct. 17 and Thursday, Oct. 19. System tests will occur on both days between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. The tests are being conducted to ensure that the Wake Alert emergency notification system operates correctly. Project Pumpkin is coming on Oct. 24

Project Pumpkin will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 3-6 p.m. on the Quad (aka Hearn Plaza). Like Hit the Bricks, this is a signature campus event that your students won’t want to miss.

Project Pumpkin is a signature student-led community-building event that began in an effort to bring together both the campus and Winston-Salem communities. Each year, the fall festival incorporates a different theme related to education. The event also serves as a fundraiser for the WFU Freedom School.

Students can get involved with this annual tradition by hosting a booth, serving on a committee or volunteering, or buying a Project Pumpkin t-shirt. Even if they don’t formally volunteer, your Deacs can put on a costume and come to the Quad and walk around to witness all the joy of little kids trick or treating and playing carnival games.

For P’27s: Letters So Dear and Weekly Message for First-Year Families

It’s a new week, so that means our first-year students got their weekly issue of Letters So Dear; in addition, our Weekly Message for First-Year Families is about time management and overcommitment.
