Happy move-in day, P’27s and Transfer families!

Today is the day! Our Class of 2027 and transfer students (not involved in Pre-Orientation programs) arrived today. The weather forecast (at least at the time of my writing this) called for cooler temperatures (mid 80s) and that would be a blessing.

Orientation activities tonight (8/23) and tomorrow (8/24)

For new families arriving today, we hope to see you in Wait Chapel at 7:30 p.m. for our program Flourish in the Forest. No RSVP is necessary, you can come casually, and your students will be in a required program of their own, so you won’t be missing a chance to be with them. Flourish in the Forest is a great opportunity to hear from campus leadership.

Our Orientation program continues on Thurs. 8/24, and there are many programs to choose from throughout the day, including another all-call for families at 1:15 p.m. in Wait Chapel, What to Know Before You Go. We’ve gathered key campus partners to share some of the early situations your students might face, and how we (and you) can best support them in those moments. If you have not already downloaded the app for Orientation, instructions are in this message. Unless otherwise specified in the description for individual sessions, no RSVPs needed, just show up.

All Orientation programming ends on Thursday 8/24, and your new Deacs will have lots of required programming Friday through the weekend. Having just done a college drop-off myself, I know it is hard to leave your student. And yet, on some level, the sooner we go home, the quicker it helps our students meet their classmates and get involved in campus life. Perhaps there can be some comfort in that.

Family Weekend football ticket reminder

If you haven’t already secured your Family Weekend football tickets, you will want to do that before they sell out (there were less than 1,000 seats left when I last got a count). You can visit the Athletics website to purchase Family Weekend football tickets and parking, or if you are interested in premium seating options, contact the ticket office at 336-758-3322 ext 1.

Remember that if your student wants to sit with you, you will need to purchase a separate ticket for them. We won’t know kickoff time until about 10 days before the game due to television scheduling.

Student health insurance charge on your student’s bill

I’ve had a few questions from families who saw a charge for student health insurance on their tuition bill. If you do not go through the waiver process, you will be billed for student health insurance. Please be sure that you have either enrolled in or waived our student health insurance. Families have to do this EVERY year, not just their first year.

Wishing all our new and transfer families a smooth move-in, and safe travels for our returning upperclass students (and any loved ones helping them move in, if applicable). 2023-24 is going to be a great year!
