Today’s Daily Deac is like a great Louisiana jambalaya: we’re throwing lots of stuff into the mix for you 🙂
We still have ’27s who are immunization non-compliant (ask your student to check!)
We still have some new/transfer students who have not completed all required health information and immunization documentation in the Student Health Portal.
If you have a ’27 or transfer student, please have them check their status immediately to verify they are compliant OR see what is missing and make a plan to complete their immunizations and upload their documentation as soon as possible.
If your student is not compliant, they will not be able to move in to their residential community, attend Pre-Orientation programs, and attend classes. This is not something you want to find out as they try to move in, so please have your new Deac verify their status in the Student Health Portal.
We continue to send emails to impacted students’ WFU email addresses (one went out this afternoon to impacted students). Please ask your new Deacs to check their WFU Inbox (and junk, spam, promotions, and social folders, lest it get routed there) and ensure they are not in jeopardy.
News roundup from the weekend
We had two campuswide messages go out after 5 p.m. Friday: one was about a rabid racoon near Worrell Professional Center, and the other was about Wake Forest’s Zoom content being exempt from “Zoom IQ” AI-training.
Outdoor emergency alert system testing Aug. 15 and 16
FYI for any families who have Deacs on campus right now: the Wake Forest University Police Department will test the outdoor emergency alert system on Tuesday, Aug. 15 and Wednesday, Aug. 16.
The community will hear messages on loudspeakers across campus. The tests are being conducted to ensure that the University’s emergency notification systems are operating correctly. If an actual emergency were to occur on the testing dates, the University would use numerous alert methods to inform the campus.
No action is required to the alert messages during these tests.
Soccer Fan Fest rescheduled for Aug. 16
Weather can’t keep us from kicking off soccer season the right way! Fan Fest has been rescheduled for Wednesday, August 16 from 6-8 p.m. Enjoy an evening of fun including food, inflatables, face painting, giant lawn games, autographs, and more at Spry Stadium to kick off the 2023 season. Admission is free, so make your plans to be there now!
University Parkway entrance
If you are coming to town earlier than official move-in for Pre-Orientation, you may notice that there is still work being done at our University Parkway entrance. Here’s the update I got last week about the closure:
“WFU Facilities will be opening Wake Forest Rd and the University Parkway Gate on Thursday, August 17th. We thank you for the understanding as we complete this project and apologize for any inconveniences.”
Wake Study Space
One of the big adjustments during each year of college is the search for your best studying spot. That could be the same space all 4 years, or it could vary from year to year. The key is to find a place where you can do your best, most productive studying.
Fortunately, we have a Wake Study Space website that is maintained by the College. It offers a digital overview of our study spaces. I hope your students will bookmark it and take advantage of this great web resource.
Encourage your Deac to join Wake Choirs
All students—undergrad and graduate—are invited to join Wake Choirs this semester! Sopranos, altos, tenor, and basses can find their community through this incredible opportunity to create beautiful music and express yourself. Beginners to advanced, there’s a place for your student! Encourage your Deac to sign up / register today and to become a valued part of the Wake Choirs family!
ICYMI (In Case You Missed It)
There are two very critical processes that your Deacs need to do and we want to make sure they don’t miss them. Families, please check in with your Deac on the following:
Health insurance
- ALL students of all years need to either waive or enroll in our student insurance program before school begins. You can find information here.
Student phone numbers for emergency text messages
- Please ensure your student has provided their mobile number for campus security alerts. Undergraduate students are required to provide their cell phone number. Their number must be in the “Cell (Mobile)” record field.
I will be out of the office tomorrow and Wednesday to get my student moved into NC State, so look for some pre-posted content on those days.
