Last Day of the Academic Year
In this Issue:
- Draft Orientation schedule for new students and families
- Some advice shared with new students
Today is the last day of the 2022-23 academic and fiscal year. On or around July 1, P’23 families whose students have graduated will drop off our official email list for current families; the Daily Deac is sent by a separate system, so P’23s (and any other families) stay on that list until they choose to unsubscribe.
Because it is the last day of the fiscal year, today is the last day for you to make a gift to the Parents’ Campaign of the Wake Forest Fund and have it count in this year’s totals. If you want to make a gift this fiscal year, you have until 11:59 p.m. to do it by credit card at our secure giving site. Many thanks to all who made gifts this year – and for your consideration (if you have not made a gift yet!)
Today is also top-heavy with new family information. Bear with us, as there is a lot we need to cover over the next few weeks with new families.
Draft Orientation schedule for new students and families
This was shared in a special message to new students today – and I know new families will be happy to see it, because it’s about the tentative Orientation schedule!
“We will be publishing the Orientation schedule later this summer via the Guidebook app. However, we know that students and families are very interested in getting a sense of what the schedule will be. Therefore, we have a tentative schedule of Orientation activities as of today, just to help you plan travel and more. Please use this as a draft, tentative guideline until our Guidebook app is launched in mid-July; items may be subject to change.“
Your students may need to be logged in to their WFU Google account to see the schedule (it is a Google doc).
Some advice shared with new students
This was also shared in the message to new students today, and it bears repeating.
“PRO TIP #1: Read your emails carefully and in their entirety. We know they are long, but they are long for a reason: most if not all of the answers you seek are in them. Your professors will expect that you review course syllabi and assignments with the same care and attention to detail, so this is great practice for what is to come.
PRO TIP #2: Ctrl+F is your friend! When looking through emails or the New Students Website, use this feature to search for specific criteria; you’ll be amazed at much more quickly you find what you’re looking for.
PRO TIP #3: Triple check that you’ve accomplished everything on your to-do list. You won’t always receive a confirmation email or be prodded to submit something multiple times in advance of a deadline. Now is the time to develop a sense of agency and accountability.”
I can’t stress enough the importance of reading emails carefully and fully. When a student asks a faculty or staff member a question when the answer had already been given to them in a previous email, it is not a good look.
The 2023-24 academic and fiscal year will begin on July 1. Happy New Year to everyone!
