Tuesday Newsday
Today is a real smorgasbord, friends – lots of news from various parts of campus. Take what you need and scroll through anything that doesn’t apply 🙂
The 2022 Senior Colloquium will be held in Pugh Auditorium today (Tuesday, February 8) from 5-7 pm. You can view the livestream. The Senior Orations Colloquium is a long-standing Wake Forest tradition dating back to 1835 which elevates the importance of thoughtful public discourse within the university community and beyond. Ten graduating seniors will present their orations reflecting on what they have learned during their time at Wake Forest and “to share with our community a compelling narrative of the values, challenges, and influences that helped shape you during your college years.” These speeches are always spectacular, so I hope your Deacs go (and you tune in).
The Spring Involvement Fair is happening tomorrow (Feb. 9) from 4-6 pm. This is a great opportunity for students to see the breadth and depth of our student organizations and to sign up for new activities. I say this a lot, but engagement in campus organizations is a critical part of students’ feeling of belonging on campus. Urge your Deacs to go and sign up for a handful of new organizations and be open and brave to new possibilities!
Parents and families, my colleagues in Campus Dining want to hear from you: “We ask that you take ~5 minutes to share your ideas on the ideal food experience for students, and where we can most improve to meet these changing needs. This online interview asks you about your future expectations for food and how it can enhance the campus experience.” Please do take their survey, as your feedback is important.
Registration for the Sleepin’ Deacon Challenge opened yesterday and will run until Feb. 11. Your Deacs can sign up here. This is a really fun way to become better educated about sleep, build new sleep habits, and get some swag. I did this a few years ago, but am going back for a refresher course. I will try to share some tips here in case families are interested.
Yesterday, the following Letters So Dear message was sent to the Class of 2025 and spring transfer students.
Today, we sent a community safety advisory about wildlife on campus; you can read it here.
Our COVID office shared with me that in last week’s COVID update with Dr. Christopher Ohl (that he does for the hospital), about COVID, he highlighted a testing site that does free COVID testing, including those wanting to test prior to travel or family gatherings. The site is Atrium Health – WFU Testing Center at Bowman Gray Stadium in the parking lot, and hours are M-F 9-6 and Sat 10-3. I am told tests come back within 24-36 hours, which would be particularly good for people needing a negative test within 48 hours of attending an event.
That’s a smattering of some of what is happening on campus. Always want to remind our students to check for other events and activities on the Corq app, The Link, as well as websites and social media for departments of interest, student organizations, etc. So much good stuff out there.
