Lots of great musical opportunities coming up for our Deacs. First up is the Secrest Artists Series tonight at 7:30 in Brendle Recital Hall. Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras will be performing. His work is described as follows:

“Curiosity, diversity and a firm focus on the music itself characterize the artistic work of Jean-Guihen Queyras. On stage and during recordings you experience an artist who is passionately devoted to music, but who is completely unpretentious and humble towards the works in order to reproduce the essence of the music in an unadulterated and clear manner. When the three components – the inner motivation of the composer, performer and audience – are on the same wavelength, a successful concert is created. Jean-Guihen Queyras…takes on both early music, as with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and the Berlin Academy of Early Music, and contemporary works with equal intensity.”

Urge your Deacs to come out and see this performance.

Conductor Dr. David Hagy will lead a student orchestra in a spooky midnight performance of unforgettable twists, turns, and special guests! The performance begins at midnight on Sunday, Oct. 31 and ends at 1am on Monday, Nov. 1.

In other news, President Wente shared her thoughts in the latest From Wente’s Desk blog. She describes the origins and principles of her leadership philosophy. Read more about her Three T’s — trust, transparency and teamwork.

Residence Life and Housing sent the following messages: off campus students received a fall update e-newsletter, and resident students received this message reminding them of the upcoming deadline of 9 am November 1 to submit and spring housing change requests. Late submissions will not be accepted.

We sent out this week’s WFU Should Know student e-newsletter a little early, because today’s on-campus flu clinic was able to accommodate walk-up appointments, and we wanted to make sure any Deacs who wanted to get the vaccine today could do so.  But if your Deac couldn’t make the clinic, they have options to get it by appointment at the Student Health Service, or to go to a CVS, Target, etc. The enewsletter provides details on how they can upload proof of vaccination if they get their shot off campus.

This week’s Wake Forest in the News is now available and I’ll tease you with this one headline that stood out to me: Why your brain is wired to think Jordan is better than LeBron. But you can peruse the full issue to see more.

One more addition to a story I ran earlier in the week: the CLASS (Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success) events includes CLASS Café. See the graphic below for details. I’m told there will be seasonal treats like cookies and cider, along with good conversation.
