Oh Happy Day!!
HAPPY MOVE-IN!!! It’s a happy, happy day for us. We are so excited about our new Deacs moving in today and tomorrow, and our older students through the weekend.
We look forward to seeing our P’25s and transfer families for Flourish in the Forest at 7:30 pm in Wait Chapel tonight or Thursday (reminder, masks required indoors, and we will post a recording after the second session taping is complete). Please also stop by our Family Welcome Center today and tomorrow in the Benson Center from 1-7, and on Friday from 1-5 pm.
Since I am working move-in and the Family Welcome Center much of the next three days, this will be a quick hit kind of day.
We sent a message to our incoming families about optional tuition insurance, but want to make sure that families of all years are aware of this program, as you must enroll before the first day of classes. There was a Daily Deac back in July about tuition insurance; read it here. A couple of key points: no one intends to have to leave college once they start. Tuition insurance exists so that if a student has an unexpected need to withdraw due to accident, illness or mental health conditions as defined in the plan. It is important to know that Wake does not financially benefit if you opt in to tuition insurance. Wake offers this plan because we have seen situations where families ar forced to choose between major financial losses and their child’s health.
In case you missed it, Athletics has done a 2020-21 Year in Review. It’s a great look at all the ways our student-athletes, teams, and coaches excelled this past year.
For any P’20s in the Daily Deacdom, please see this message about Class of 2020 Commencement. While only graduates are able to register for tickets, we wanted families to know so you could discuss your family’s plans for Commencement with your graduate.
The Mayor of Winston-Salem has enacted an indoor mask mandate effective at 5:30 pm this Friday, August 20th. Please be aware of this if you are in town for move-in that masks will be expected indoors within the city.
I’m two years away from moving my own kiddo into college, and already I can feel my heart tightening a bit. For all the families out there who are going through this for the first time, know that this is a place full of caring folks who are here to help your students learn and thrive. Your students are ready, and you are too 🙂
