A 21 Photo Salute
I have been going through the results of the recent Daily Deac survey and many of you commented there about how much you enjoy pictures of campus and want to see more of our amazing Ken Bennett’s work. Today you are in for a special treat.
It is close to the end of the year, and it’s normally the time for end-of-year retrospectives. Ken decided to close out the second decade of the 21st century with a bang. He went back into his archives to try and find a picture to represent each year since 2000. Only it was not possible to choose just one photo to encompass a whole year, so he has a series of photos from each, with some narrative about what you are seeing.
I hope you will enjoy this photostory as much as I did. It’s a wonderful look back at the recent history of Wake Forest through the impeccable artistry of Ken’s photos. Thank you to Ken and my news team colleagues who curated this collection.
A couple of clarifications from yesterday’s message about pre-arrival expectations (and other miscellany):
While we are asking students to do a 14 day self-quarantine before returning to campus, we know that asking students to be tested for COVID means they may have to leave their home to go get tested (unless they prefer a mail-in kit). Leaving your home to get a COVID test in your testing window is OK. What we mean by self-quarantine is to limit unnecessary outings or socializing with others; if you must leave your home, be masked, stay 6′ apart, avoid crowds, and try to make that outing as short as possible.
Some have asked if their student needs an appointment to come back to campus in January. At this time, the only people who need to make an appointment are students who are moving on to campus for the first time in the spring (i.e., they did not live here in the fall). If your student was here in the fall, we are not asking for an appointment. Residence Life and Housing will have additional information for new students closer to move-in.
There was an error in the December Wake Parents & Families enewsletter. I had incorrectly included a link to a fraternity recruitment webinar that was for last year, not this year. As soon as I have a new link, I will let you know. Thank you for your patience.
Dean Walton of the Divinity School posted a beautiful holiday greeting online, which I recommend highly. Dean Walton has the gift of le mot juste – he is one of several colleagues who always seems to find the right words at the right time, even when the situation is very complicated or trying, as it is during the pandemic. If you are looking for a holiday pick me up, Dean Walton has you covered.
