A couple of audience-participation kinds of posts today. A couple of weeks ago, I got an email from a Deac mom who was justifiably proud of the philanthropic work our students are doing on campus. She mentioned that the Sigma Chi fraternity (along with several sororities), raised over $97,500 dollars in a week-long Derby Days event: “seems a remarkable example of Wake’s Pro Humanitate spirit!” So true. Here’s a snippet from a Sigma Chi email about the event (and some pics below):
“We are tremendously pleased to share with you the success of this year’s annual weeklong philanthropic event, Derby Days….[we raised a] total of $97,507!…In addition to the $26,824 donation Delta Nu has made to Brenner Children’s Hospital this year, we also have donated $23,243 from the funds raised to the Make-A-Wish Foundation with Chi Omega (2018 Derby Days Champion), $20,000 to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, $9,127 to the Special Olympics Organization with Kappa Beta Gamma (2018 Derby Days Runner-Up), and $2,197 to the Starkey Hearing Foundation with Delta Zeta (2018 Derby Days 3rd Place).”
I also heard from a Deac mom that the Wake Forest Christian girls a cappella group, Minor Variation, will be touring the Richmond, Virginia area. They will be performing at Third Church, 600 Forest Ave, Richmond, on Monday, May 14 at 7 pm. For any Richmond area Deacs who would like to hear our talented ladies, here’s your chance! I am told “the girls are thrilled to come to Richmond, and very excited to make connections in Richmond with our Wake Forest community!” Poster below.
