In this Issue: DESK (a colorful, whimsical campus volunteer event)

Today is a rare day where I am basically back to back meetings, so I am just sharing one story (and posting first thing in the morning). Here goes.

DESK took place yesterday, and it was a beautiful day for it: sunny, mild temps, perfect. DESK (Discovering Education through Student Knowledge) is an annual campus project where Wake students paint desks for local schoolchildren – giving them not only a place to do their homework, but a place that is colorful, fun, and inspiring.

DESK is a multiphase operation. Desks have to get built and prepped for painting (which took place on the weekend through Tuesday, I believe) and then the big, colorful paint day was yesterday.

I am sharing some of my favorite pics below, but you can also see the full DESK photostory.

The event brings local elementary school children to campus each spring to create inspiring, colorful study spaces for students in their homes. A longstanding campus tradition, DESK was started in 2001 in partnership with Old Town Elementary after two WFU students identified a lack of workspace in the homes of the children they were tutoring.
