Spring Break is just a few hours away (though I know some students got a head start a day or two early). Between the joy of an upcoming break from classes, and the absolutely spectacular weather we are having (mid 70s, sunny, light breeze), you can’t help but feel filled with joy today.

And there is good news to add to that joy. Read on…

Wake Forest, Palmer Foundation announce partnership to promote leadership and character through golf

Wake Forest has a long and legendary tradition of excellence in golf, and we have a growing reputation for our exceptional work on leadership and character. Today, those two worlds collided in a big announcement:

“The Arnold & Winnie Palmer Foundation and the Program for Leadership and Character at Wake Forest University are forming a partnership to promote leadership and character development through youth golf programs around the world and to support student-athletes at Wake Forest….

‘We believe that character is the foundation not only of leadership but of life,’ says Dr. Michael Lamb, senior executive director of the Program for Leadership and Character. ‘In his Wake Forest commencement address in 2005, Arnold Palmer encouraged us all to teach “the basic traits and habits that make good citizens and good human beings.” Our aim is to do just that — to help as many young people as possible — at every stage of development — embrace character as their foundation for what Mr. Palmer called ‘a life well played.’

Corey Crossan will lead the initiative….In her role,…Crossan will work closely with the Palmer Foundation and its many partners to create curriculum, programming and tools to help young golfers become better at the sport and to live life on the basis of character….

In addition to her work with youth golfers, Crossan, who will serve as an assistant director of programming and research scholar, will work with the Program to support student-athletes at Wake Forest.”

GO DEACS!

Wake ‘N Shake is almost here!

I saw this from a campus colleague and wanted to be sure to share it with the Daily Deacdom, because this is always a terrific event:

Wake ’N Shake is almost here! Encourage your student to take part in Wake Forest’s 12-hour dance marathon on Saturday, March 28, benefiting the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.

Last year, students raised more than $330,000 to support cancer research and patient care. All students are invited to participate in this meaningful campus tradition and help make a difference in the fight against cancer.”

Students can find more info here.

Engineering Week video

Do you have a student who is an Engineering major, or just interested in engineering? If yes, this is for you!

One of my very talented colleagues who works with videos put together this piece highlighting Wake Forest’s Engineering Department and activities from Engineering Week. Watch it on Instagram.

Save the Date for Deacs Day of Giving – March 18

For those of you who might not have made a gift to our Parents’ Campaign this year, we have a special day coming up that would be a great time to do so:

“Deacs Day of Giving is Thursday, March 19! So mark your calendar–it’ll be a great day to show up for the Old Gold and Black! #DEACSGIVE”

Every gift counts – it doesn’t have to be a big one! More to come after Spring Break.

Daily Deac will be dark for Spring Break

Since our students are away next week (and there will not be a ton of news happening), we will not post new Daily Deacs during Spring Break. Of course, if there was suddenly important news to share, we’d post that day, but our plan is to resume Daily Deacs on Monday, March 16.

Whether your Deacs come home to you, travel to somewhere fun, or have a staycation on campus, I wish them a safe, fun, restorative break!

Wishing all our Deacs a safe, healthy, happy, and FUN Spring Break!! See you on March 16th!
