A few quick notes for you today, Daily Deacdom.
Mr. Daily Deac was born and raised in Louisiana, so Mardi Gras is a festive time in my house (as a matter of fact, we just blitzed through a King Cake). Happily, your Deacs can have a little bit of Laissez les bons temps rouler (let the good times roll) tomorrow at a Mardi Gras party…
Mardi Gras party
“Come celebrate Mardi Gras with us as we share the food, music, and traditions of the season!
We will be serving soul food and Mardi Gras favorites (including jambalaya and king cake), hosting craft activities, and featuring live jazz.”
See the details below (click to enlarge).
Zotero (citation management) workshop
For any student that will be writing research papers, a thesis, an Honors project for their major, etc., I can’t stress enough how much help they can get by using Zotero.
“Zotero is a powerful (and free!) tool for saving, organizing, and citing research sources. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to install Zotero, how to use it to build your own library of sources, and save yourself time when writing research papers. This hands-on session is oriented toward first-time users of Zotero. No familiarity with Zotero is required. Participants should bring their own Mac or Windows laptop (Chrome browser required).”
I used Zotero in my dissertation and it made formatting references and creating a bibliography/reference section an absolute breeze. Deacs, do yourself a favor and learn this tool. It is so easy and saves you immense hassle!
Students can register for a session here (multiple dates available). Many thanks to the amazing team at the ZSR Library for providing these workshops.
Tuesday is RA Appreciation Day
Tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 17) is RA Appreciation Day, a national celebration held every February to honor the incredible work of Resident Advisers. So hat’s off to our RAs! They balance their academic workload with their role as paraprofessionals in our residential communities – doing everything from being a listening ear, supporting residential safety, helping mediate interpersonal issues between roommates, providing crisis response or management, and helping our students make a home here at Wake. We are grateful for all the RAs do!
Reminder of emergency testing on Weds.
Just a reminder that we will be testing our emergency alert systems on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 9 a.m. The tests are required to ensure that the University’s emergency notifications are operating properly.
No action is required; it is just a test.
That’s all I have for you today. And if you are eating a King Cake at home for Mardi Gras, I hope you get the baby :)
