We’re almost to the end of the last week of classes. Hard to believe that the semester is nearly finished. And we are all keeping an eye on the weather, as there is a chance we get snow tomorrow (at least this was the forecast as of 8:30 a.m. today):
Which leads us to our first item of the day…
How WFU communicates weather and safety information
As the cold weather season approaches – and with potential snow in the forecast for tomorrow – we wanted to review review how the University informs the community about weather-related campus closings and delays. The short version is students will get notified via email and text message, and there would be an alert banner at the top of our wfu.edu website. But you can read the article to see the full information, including local news stations’ weather forecasts if you want to stay in the loop.
Master’s in Content Creation & Strategic Storytelling – new 4+1 program
I was excited to learn about a new program, the Master’s in Content Creation & Strategic Storytelling, which is open to all undergraduate juniors (they will apply for the program by March 6 in time for Fall 2026 registration). Anyone who wants more digital storytelling skills will benefit from this program.
What’s more, this is a 4+1 program, which offers undergraduates a chance to stay at Wake for one extra year to get their master’s with an accelerated timeline: 4 years of undergrad + 1 year of graduate school = 2 WFU degrees in 5 years. You can watch a short video about the program that explains in more detail.
One important note: this program is only open to current Wake Forest undergraduate students; they will apply in spring of their junior year to begin taking graduate-level classes in fall of senior year.
I am admittedly biased because I work in communications :) but I very much agree with this statement from the program website: “The art and craft of storytelling is no longer just for writers and filmmakers – it’s a valuable skill increasingly needed across all industries.” So if your Deac might be asking themselves what they want to do after graduation, this program might be an amazing place to start.
We wanted to mention this to families in advance of Winter Break. We know students right now are focused on final exams, so we’ll share more information about this degree program via the WFU Should Know student e-newsletter in mid-to late-January.
Reminder of Lovefeast on Sunday
For those who want to join in the holiday spirit on campus, remember that the annual Lovefeast is this Sunday at 7 p.m. Your Deacs can attend in Wait Chapel, and parents and families (and grandparents, etc.) can watch the livestream.
The Wake Forest Lovefeast started when “Moravian student Jane Sherrill Stroupe (’67) organized the first Wake Forest Lovefeast in December 1965. Two hundred students gathered to celebrate the traditional meal. Since then, the Wake Forest Lovefeast has grown to be the largest Moravian-style lovefeast in North America, and one of the favorite features of Wake Forest tradition.
The Wake Forest Lovefeast meal consists of a sweetened bun and creamed coffee, which dieners (German for “servers”) serve to participants. During the meal, music from the Wake Forest Concert Choir fills the air. During the service of song and scripture reading, everyone receives a handmade beeswax candle decorated with a red paper frill. A warm glow fills the chapel as the candles are lit while worshipers sing the final hymns.”
It is a beautiful service that always leaves me feeling happy and in the spirit of the holidays. I hope it does the same for any in the Daily Deacdom who participate.
Only one more day of classes. Stay strong, Deacs!
