Increased presence of emergency vehicles on campus: December 10 & December 11

I got word this afternoon that: “There will be an increased presence of emergency vehicles on the Reynolda Campus on Wednesday, December 10 and Thursday, December 11 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. as University Police, along with Winston-Salem Police Department, Winston-Salem Fire Department, Forsyth County EMS, and other local agencies, participate in First Responder Training.

This is a planned training exercise and not an actual emergency. Training will take place at the Miller Center.”

So if your Deacs see a lot of police or emergency vehicles, this is why.

Seeking Pasture: faculty member and his sheep

I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago that I had been seeing someone walking sheep on rope leashes not too far from campus.

Seeking Pasture: art faculty member walks sheep for social art project

It is one of our art faculty members, and now you can see for yourself via this photostory and read more about the faculty member’s work in this news story. Here is a taste:

“On a cold December morning in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, activist, artist and filmmaker Joel Tauber walked with Rebecca and Sarah, guiding them with a firm grip as they dashed across Robinhood Road during morning rush hour. People honked their horns and waved as they drove by, drawn by the unusual sight of two sheep on a leash.

For 40 days, professor Tauber shepherded the half sisters around his neighborhood as part of a social art project called “Seeking Pasture” that aims to raise awareness about community and the ecosystems we live in together. He plans to turn the project into a movie and art installation to raise further awareness about these issues.”

Support Services for students over Winter Break

The University will be closed starting Dec. 22 through Jan. 2, 2026. Even with the closures, there are still some ways students can seek support if they need it:

The University Counseling Center will be closed during the University closure from Friday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m. until Monday, Jan. 5, at 8:30 a.m. During this time, students can access our after-hours crisis counselor-on-call by calling our office at 336.758.5273.

As our students head into a well-deserved Winter Break, we want them to know that We Are Wake is always here to support their wellbeing, no matter where they are. If your Deac needs help or wants to talk with someone, they can call 336.758.CARE (2273) any time, day or night. This 24/7 line connects students with resources and support so they never have to navigate a tough moment alone.
