Today is Veterans Day, a day of remembrance and gratitude for all who have served our country. Many thanks to all our Deac parents and families who have served in the military. My late father was a Marine (for a few years) and I was raised on the idea that all who join our country’s armed forces are making a noble commitment.

And although it is Veterans Day, here at the Daily Deac we also want to honor and thank the cadets in our ROTC program who will graduate from Wake and begin their military service. So to all who help, protect, and serve others – especially in dire times or when your own personal safety is at risk – we thank you.

P’26s: ensure your seniors apply to graduate!

Is your student graduating in 2026? They must apply to graduate. Seniors received an email on Tuesday, Nov. 4 about the Application for Graduation*, which is open in Workday. Seniors must apply by Dec. 15 for our May 2026 graduation.

* this Application for Graduation jobaid may only be available to WFU students using their WFU login; I do not know if non-WFU accounts can access it.

Let’s hear it for the women!

Women’s soccer team seeded #7 in NCAA Tournament

Congratulations to our women’s soccer team:

“For the fourth time in the last five seasons, the Wake Forest women’s soccer team has been selected to the 2025 NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed. The Demon Deacons will host South Carolina in the first round on Friday, Nov. 14 at Spry Stadium. The first-round clash with the Gamecocks is slated for 6 p.m.” Read the full story. Students can get ticket information via the Screamin Demons reward app.

Field hockey nearly sweeps ACC awards, heads to 19th NCAAs

Around the Quad – the email from Director of Athletics John Currie (’93), sung the praises of our field hockey team:

“Wake Forest field hockey capped a spectacular 2025 regular season at 15-3 overall and 7-1 in ACC play, earning a share of the ACC Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2006. Coach Jen Averill’s squad won 15 of its final 16 games…and will enter the NCAA Tournament this weekend riding tremendous momentum.

Fittingly, the Deacs dominated the league’s postseason honors, sweeping four of the ACC’s five major awards — including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year — and placing five players on All-ACC teams after one of the most successful seasons in program history.

The Deacs are in the NCAA Tournament for the 19th time….Wake Forest will face UConn in the first round on Friday, Nov. 14, in Cambridge, Mass.”

Preparing residences for Thanksgiving break

Residence Life and Housing sent a message to resident students today with reminders of what to do before departing campus for Thanksgiving break (if applicable).

Students need to do things like store all food in closed containers, remove perishables, take the trash out, lock their room, etc. Students should read the message for the full checklist. There will also be health and safety inspections of all rooms Nov. 23-25, so students will want to be sure there is nothing in their room that is prohibited.

For students who are living in off-campus housing, they will also want to prepare their residence for break. Residence Life and Housing has some tips for off-campus students. They will want to be sure to lock all their doors and windows if they are leaving for break, among other things.

That’s all I have for you on this very chilly day. We’ll be back with more tomorrow!
