Happy to report that the weekend is almost here – and I hope you have a good one planned.

Today I want to spend some time previewing one of our great holiday traditions, Pitsgiving, and also share a look at last night’s Face to Face.

Preview of Pitsgiving (our Thanksgiving extravaganza)

One of the happiest days of the fall semester is Pitsgiving. Pitsgiving is our own version of Thanksgiving. It happens the Thursday before Thanksgiving.

Pitsgiving is akin to the modern “Friendsgiving,” where you have a Thanksgiving meal with your closest friends who are like family to you – and then you will go home a week later and have actual Thanksgiving with your real family.

This year, Pitsgiving will be held Thursday, November 20 in the Pit and the Mag Room. Students can get turkey, stuffing, mac and cheese, green beans, and all the traditional fixins, plus pumpkin pie and other great desserts, and they can do Pitsgiving for lunch (11 a.m.-3 p.m.) and/or dinner (4-8 p.m.).

Pitsgiving is a beautiful thing to witness. Students line up for Pitsgiving. They strategize to get a table big enough for their friend group. There are countdowns to the door opening at the start of lunch or dinner. The Demon Deacon might even make an appearance. It’s a loud, crowded, abundant and joyous experience.

For our new families not yet familiar with Pitsgiving, here are a few pictures to help you see what I’m talking about.

Story of a ’24 grad and a monster sandwich

And speaking of food and eating…this hit my inbox late today and the story is something else. The article is entitled “This MiLB team’s Moby Dick sando includes 16 fish patties — and a fan tried to eat the whole thing” and it tells the story of Wake Forest grad Jae Canetti (’24) trying to eat the minor league ballpark’s monster sandwich.

Whether you are a baseball fan, a fan of quirky ballpark contests, like dogs (the ballpark has a Bat Dog!), or just want to see if he conquered the sandwich, it is a fun article. You can also read a more serious profile of Jae here.

Face to Face with Mitt Romney photostory

I hope your students were able to go to the student-led event with Mitt Romney yesterday. Our events are not able to be recorded/streamed (as you might imagine, some of our guests speak and many events and want their remarks to be new to the audiences), so if you want to hear more about what was said, encourage your Deac to give you a recap.

But we do have this photostory to share with you. You can subscribe to photostories if you like; use the link at the bottom of the page.

Make it a great weekend, Daily Deacdom!
