Yesterday’s rain meant that Project Pumpkin – our Halloween carnival for local children, which has been a campus tradition for 35+ years – had to get moved to the Benson Center, but there was still plenty of fun to be had. You can see more in this Project Pumpkin photostory and/or at the @wfuniversity Instagram account (and if you are not already following, give them a follow!)
Speaking of campus traditions, today’s Daily Deac talks about senior portraits for the yearbook, as well as Commencement. Take what serves you and scroll past what doesn’t :)
Senior Portraits
I received an update from The Howler, our yearbook, on senior portraits. Here are the details:
“When: November 3–7. Appointments are limited, so please encourage people to sign up early using the link here or the QR code on the flyer below. There will be multiple sessions throughout the school year if these times do not work for you.
Where: Benson University Center, Room 406
What to expect: You’ll be photographed in your own business attire and in a cap and gown, which will be provided.
After your session: Proofs will be available online 7–10 days later and can be used for professional or personal purposes.
Photos are free and do not mean you have to purchase a yearbook, though you are welcome to if you’d like.”
How to order The Howler yearbook
If you would like to purchase a yearbook, you can do so here — our school code is 13941. Though my understanding is that only seniors have their pictures in the Yearbook (if they sign up for a senior portrait), students of all years can buy The Howler.
Commencement website
If you have visited parents.wfu.edu lately, you will see that we have a Commencement Coundown clock – and today says we are days away:
The Commencement website will be P’26s place for all info about Commencement weekend. There is currently an announcement on the website that says “Commencement Information for 2026 will be posted on November 18th.” So P’26s might want to make a note in your calendar to check back then for more details.
Also, by way of setting expectations, it is likely that on Nov. 18 we will see some initial info about Commencement, but more content and details will come closer to the spring. March has historically been when the Commencement office contacts seniors about ticket ordering being open; we need to wait until after midterms to get the list of seniors on track to graduate from the Registrar’s office. The Commencement and Baccalaureate speakers tend to be announced in March or April.
So know there will be more info to come starting Nov. 18th and through the spring. We can’t wait to cheer on the Class of 2026 when they walk across the Commencement stage!
Future Commencement dates
For the P’27s, ’28s and ’29s, the Commencement website lists future Commencement dates at the very bottom of their main webpage on the left footer. The dates listed are:
Future Commencement Dates:
Monday, May 18, 2026
Monday, May 17, 2027
Monday, May 15, 2028
Monday, May 21, 2029
Monday, May 20, 2030
What I do know about Commencement is that it comes way sooner than you think. These four years of college go by quickly.
