Tuesday Reminders
In this Issue:
- Arrive and Thrive tomorrow (Sept. 10)
- ESPN coming on Sept. 11!
- Magic Johnson Face to Face (Sept. 16)
- Letters So Dear for our ’29s
What a glorious couple of days we have had. It has been sunny here and the type of fall feeling day where it is warm if you are in the sun and cool in the shade, or first thing in the morning or at night. Basically close to perfect weather for being outdoors. I know a lot of our Deacs love the offerings in our Wellbeing Center to get their exercise, but I would encourage them to walk or run outdoors some too. It’s just so beautiful right now.
Today I have a handful of reminders to share. There is always so much going on at Wake, and while we try to tell you/your Deacs well in advance to put things on your calendar as applicable, I know we all get busy and things might slip our minds. So I thought people might like some reminders. Pick and choose those that interest you/your Deac.
Arrive and Thrive tomorrow (Sept. 10)
Just a reminder that Arrive and Thrive, one of our feature wellbeing events for the fall, is tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 10), so if your Deac is free between 3-5 p.m., urge them to head to south campus to the lower quad (aka Manchester plaza).
The event notice says “the first 100 attendees can build a customizable Wake Ready kit, a clear bag packed with useful items to kickstart your journey to wellbeing at Wake Forest. And yes, there will be popsicles!”
ESPN coming on Sept. 11!
In case you missed it last week, we have a big deal week coming up with athletic events. Here is a summary from our Director of Athletics, John Currie (’93):
“Come join us Tuesday and Thursday on campus in advance of the big ESPN telecast of the NC State football game!
First, a special on-campus edition of the Coach Jake Dickert Show will broadcast live from Manchester Plaza, on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 7:00 p.m., giving students and fans the chance to join Coach Jake Dickert and Voice of the Demon Deacons Stan Cotten in -person for interviews, activities, and a lively-fun atmosphere.
Then, on Thursday, Sept. 11, ESPN’s flagship program SportsCenter will air live from Hearn Plaza in front of Wait Chapel from 2-3 p.m., featuring interviews with Coach Dickert, campus traditions, giveaways, and appearances by the Spirit of the Old Gold & Black Marching Band, cheer and dance teams, and the Demon Deacon mascot.”
This is going to be a lot of fun, and I hope our students come out in force for these events. For the ESPN SportsCenter event, the forecast right now is calling for party cloudy, high of 81 that day, so it should be picture perfect. Families, I hope you can tune in to SportsCenter too, and/or keep your eye on the Quad Cam to see if you can see anything.
At minimum, you should regularly visit the Quad Cam to see the fall foliage as it progresses. Right now the two trees closest to Reynolda Hall are a glorious shade of orange. It will only get better from here. Peak time for leaves should be around Nov. 1, if this year is like past years.
Magic Johnson Face to Face (Sept. 16)
If they have not already done so, remind your students to register for their FREE Earvin “Magic” Johnson Face to Face ticket! He will be in conversation with Tracy Wolfson on Tuesday, September 16 at the LJVM Coliseum at 7:30 p.m. Students can register at go.wfu.edu/f2f-student.
Families, if you want to attend, you can purchase tickets here.
Longtime Daily Deac readers know this is my familiar refrain: your students should take advantage of all these great speakers (and concerts and plays, etc.) now while they are free. All too soon, your Deacs will be out in the world after graduation and they would have to spend their own cash money to go to events like these. So I hope they will do as many of these amazing free offerings while they are still students!
Letters So Dear for our ’29s
Since I was out yesterday, I did not have a chance to share the Letters So Dear for our ’29s. You can read it here.
Hope the weather is beautiful wherever you are, too. Have a good night, Daily Deacdom!
