Today is all about events, Deac families (and our students who read!) Here are a few things that your Deacs/you may be interested in this week.

Brian’s Song tonight, Hit the Bricks tomorrow

The forecast for Hit the Bricks (taking place tomorrow) is ideal: high of 75, partly cloudy, only 2% chance of rain. That will make it a lot more pleasant to be walking/running laps around the Quad all day.

To get students in the spirit of Hit the Bricks, tonight there are some pre-event festivities tonight: “Sprint the Bricks will take place from 6:00–6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30th, the night before Hit the Bricks 2025. This joint event continues afterward with a picnic-style movie showing of Brian’s Song on Hearn Plaza, giving the community a chance to honor and learn more about Brian Piccolo’s legacy together.”

I assume there are many in the Daily Deacdom who have seen Brian’s Song, the movie memorializing our late and much beloved Deac, Brian Piccolo (’65, P’87, P’89), and his friendship with Chicago Bears teammate Gale Sayers. But if your Deacs are not familiar, watching Brian’s Song is a rite of passage for Wake Foresters, and I hope they will attend.

And if you haven’t seen James Caan sing the Wake Forest fight song, this is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.

Fraternity and Sorority recruitment registration

Today I am sharing some information from my colleagues in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement about recruitment for new members. And I always like to state for the record that I am Switzerland on the issue of fraternities and sororities: I am neither pro nor con, I am pro whatever decision is right for each individual student. But because many students tend to embark on the recruitment process, I include info here when asked.

Punt, pass, kick registration open

I was looking at The Link this week and saw this Campus Rec event listing, which is one I was not familiar with previously:

“Registration for the intramural punt, pass, kick flash challenge is open from September 30 to October 9! Show up and show off your skills on Wednesday, October 15th. Women’s and men’s leagues available. Register on IMLeagues”

College Day at the Fair

There was a listing on The Link for the upcoming Carolina Classic Fair, which is a popular event in town:

“Join Student Union on a trip to the Carolina Classic Fair! Experience exciting rides, carnival games, delicious food, livestock, and other fun events! RSVP on the link for free entry and shuttling to and from the fairgrounds! Get your ticket at the registration link.”

The fair has carnival rides, tons of food vendors (pro tip: any food can be deep fried!), and more. It’s a fun way to spend a Friday night in the fall!
