Today is all about the P’29s
In this Issue:
- P’29 Weekly Message: the Move-In Guide
- P’29s (and transfer families) – 180 students still have not completed their required immunization documentation
- Question about ’29 students’ Orientation schedules
- How new students can find their mailbox number in Workday
It’s a rainy Tuesday and all eyes are turned to the arrival of our ’29 and transfer students, who will start moving in at the end of this week, and then the rest of our new students will be here next Wednesday. So today’s blog is all about new student info and/or Orientation info.
P’29 Weekly Message: the Move-In Guide
Our second-to-last weekly message for P’29s went out this morning, and it was a big one: our Move-In Guide. It is a lengthy message (apologies in advance) and it covers a number of scenarios based on which day your Deac is moving in, so please read all the sections that apply to you.
As a reminder to our P’29 families – how you choose to move your Deac in is up to you. If your Deac is coming for Pre-Orientation and you want to move them in just with the bare bones necessities for the next few days, you can return on Weds., Aug. 20th with the rest of their things. There is no right or wrong, just what is right for your family.
P’29s (and transfer families) – 180 students still have not completed their required immunization documentation
I included this in the Move-In Guide but – in the words of the White Stripes – “said it once before but it bears repeating.” We still have something like 180 new and transfer students who have not uploaded their required immunization documentation.
In most cases, Deacon Health has been sending them secure messages in the Deacon Health portal, but they student thinks they submitted everything already and assumes the secure message does not apply to them and so they ignore it.
So I would strongly encourage families of ’29s and transfer students to ask their students to log in to the Deacon Health portal and check their secure messages asap. If they see a message, follow the instructions with what is needed to be in compliance. Please do not contact Deacon Health to ask if your student is compliant: your student will know if there are issues when they look at their secure messages.
Question about ’29s Orientation schedules
I have gotten a few questions from P’29s this week about what their students are responsible for attending during Orientation (aka New Deac Week). In the Guidebook app, if you click on the 3 bars at the top left and choose Schedule by Tracks > First Year, you can see their schedule, but it needs a little explanation.
’29 and transfer students were told this in yesterday’s weekly message from the Orientation team:
“While reviewing your New Deac Week app, you might have noticed the sessions listed as “rotations based on group.” Each new and transfer student will be assigned to small groups based on your Lower Division Advisor (LDA). Each of these groups will also have a Student Advisor, and your Student Advisor will accompany you to your mandatory sessions (listed at the bottom of this message) during New Deac Week. You will be notified of your assigned small group prior to August 20th.”
So we appreciate all our new students’ patience as those assignments are being made.
How new students can find their mailbox number in Workday
Does your Deac need to find their student mailbox number? This quick, easy guide will walk them through the steps in Workday so they can find it in just a few clicks.
