It’s a busy day for me today, Daily Deacdom, so bringing you four quick hits. Let’s dig in!

P’29s – ask your student to check their registration status in Workday (even if they think they did everything right!) tonight, so they don’t have an unhappy registration surprise tomorrow

Before ’29 students are permitted to register, they must complete student onboarding tasks. So it is incredibly important that all ’29s make sure they have done all onboarding tasks. Even if they think they did this already, they should doublecheck!

Again, ’29s will not be able to register until their onboarding tasks are completed. Their registration hold will be released immediately upon submitting the onboarding task.

If your ’29 discovers they need to complete their onboarding, they can see the Onboarding Tasks for New Undergraduate Students jobaid (they likely need to be logged in to their WFU account to see this jobaid).

While they are in Workday, they should check that they do not have any other holds that will prevent them from registering (see View My Holds in Workday while logged in to their WFU account).

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure here – so ask your ’29 student to check their onboarding and holds – and take care of anything they need to do – now.

Jobaid on paying tuition

A couple of families have asked me about how they pay tuition in Workday. This jobaid on Workday has links that show you how to access your account (once your student has granted you access), and how to manage student financials (i.e., make a payment). Tuition is not due until August 1, but some of you may want to start looking at this now. And this website has information for those who are using 529s. Hope that is helpful.

Dates for parking registration (but our students don’t have to bring a car!)

Parking registration for the 2025-26 academic year will take place August 1-11, depending on the student’s class year.

Dates for registration vary based on the student’s year; students will be sent an email at the WFU address with their registration date.

Anyone enrolled in any class or program at Wake Forest, including study-abroad programs who wish to park a vehicle in a university parking lot at any time of day or night, including after 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, on weekends, and during academic breaks, must register that vehicle with WFU Transportation and Parking Services.

And I just want to reiterate that students do not have to have a car at Wake Forest! Our campus is compact and easily walkable/bikeable, plus we have a robust shuttle system and Zipcar car-sharing service. You can see the various transportation options available to students on the Transportation: Guide to Getting Around website

Real talk: back in 1988 when I started at Wake, my [now late] father would not let me bring my car. He was afraid I would be the “campus chauffeur.” There were always other students with cars that I could get a ride to the grocery store with, and nowadays with Uber and other ride shares there are many more ways to get around. Make the choice to bring a car – or not – that best suits your family.

P’29 Weekly Message on social life and campus engagement

Happy Tuesday, P’29s! Our Weekly Message is on the longish side today, but it covers a lot of important topics about how students can become engaged on campus through student organizations (including fraternities and sororities), as well as social life, parties, alcohol and drugs (and asking families NOT to supply alcohol to their underage students at move-in or any other time on campus).

We share the information about alcohol and drugs (and potential consequences) not to scare you, but to offer guidance to help your student navigate their path in the best way possible. Read the full message.
