Happy Wednesday, Deac families! It’s the middle of the week, but I will be out of the office for the next few days on PTO, so this will be the last Daily Deac of the week.
Top of mind today is that our annual process for students to enroll or waive our student health insurance requirement is now open. As a reminder, all students of all years must enroll or waive EVERY year; so please be sure your Deac has a plan to take care of this.
Student Health Insurance enrollment/waiver process opened today (July 2) – action required for all students
A message was sent to all undergraduate parents and families today about the enrollment/waiver period for our student health insurance requirement. The message reads, in part:
“The Student Health Insurance waiver and enrollment forms are now open. All students enrolled in at least one on-campus credit are automatically charged and are required to enroll in or waive the Student Health Insurance by September 15, with the exception of international students who are automatically enrolled*.
If your student does not complete either form by September 15, they will be automatically enrolled in the plan and will be responsible for the premium amount ($1,421) charged to their student account, regardless of any other coverage they may have.
Please note that the waiver and enrollment forms must be completed annually. This is not a task just for newly-enrolled students. All students of all years must enroll or waive coverage.”
Please read the full message to ensure you have a plan in place for your students to waive or enroll, and if you have an international student, please pay special attention to that portion of the message.

Articles about the School of Business and new School of Medicine’s presence in Charlotte at The Pearl
For families of Deacs who might be looking to stay in the state after graduation, and/or who are interested in graduate education, there are two new articles in the Charlotte Business Journal about Wake Forest’s expanded presence in the new innovation district, The Pearl:
“Moving from its current location in Uptown Charlotte to The Pearl, the new home for Wake Forest business education in the city will be anchored alongside the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and School of Professional Studies. This move marks a pivotal moment for both the University and Charlotte, as integrating business programs within a healthcare innovation district is expected to spark new ventures and foster entrepreneurship in health technology and life sciences.” Read more about the School of Business and School of Professional studies in Charlotte.
In terms of the Medical School, “When Wake Forest University School of Medicine Charlotte opens this July, Charlotte will welcome its first class of 49 medical students to the new campus in The Pearl innovation district. The program will debut a pioneering, case-driven curriculum that immerses students in real-world patient scenarios from day one—reshaping how future physicians are trained.
This campus builds on the Winston-Salem-based program and makes problem-based learning the cornerstone of its educational approach. Students and faculty at both campuses share resources, research opportunities and rotations. The connection allows students and faculty to tap into the full resources of the school across both locations.” Read the full Wake Forest University School of Medicine Charlotte article.
These are exciting times in Charlotte, with lots of benefits for our students. Whether they are looking at graduate school, or simply want to live in a big city that hosts a lot of other young alumni, Charlotte has so much to offer.
The Daily Deac will be dark a few days; resuming Monday, July 7
I have a couple of days PTO scheduled around the 4th of July holiday, so the Daily Deac will be dark until Monday. As a reminder, the University is closed on July 4th, but if you have a need to reach Wake Forest, use our After Hours Help page to guide you to the right resource.
Wishing you and yours a Happy 4th! See you next Tuesday!
