Inside WFU has historically been our website for internal news, largely geared towards faculty and staff, but I keep an eye on it every day for news that may be helpful to the families (and some students) who subscribe to the Daily Deac.
Here are a few Inside WFU stories that may be of interest.
Increased presence of emergency vehicles July 9 and 16
For those of you with students in Summer Session II (or who live locally), we want you to be aware that there will be an increased presence of emergency vehicles on campus today (Wednesday, July 9) as well as next Wednesday, July 16 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
University Police, along with Winston-Salem Police Department, Winston-Salem Fire Department, Forsyth County EMS, and other local agencies, participate in First Responder Drill Training. It is important to know that this is a planned training exercise and not an actual emergency. Read more about the emergency training.
Notice of former Winston-Salem First Church demolition
The demolition of the former Winston-Salem First Church building – located at the intersection of University Parkway, Polo Road, and Long Drive – will begin next week and is anticipated to continue through August 22. Demolition should not impact campus activities or traffic. A perimeter fence will occupy about 100 parking spaces; no parking disruption is anticipated, as the lot has lower utilization during the summer.
You can see more details about the demolition here.
Wake Forest ROTC to undergo structural realignment
Following a nationwide realignment directed by the U.S. Army, the Wake Forest Army ROTC program will be redesignated as an Extension Unit of the Army ROTC program at North Carolina A&T State University, beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. This administrative change includes phased staffing adjustments over the next 12-18 months.
It is important to note that the program’s day-to-day operations will remain the same, with the Department of Military Science continuing to operate on campus with full-time Army faculty and staff, and that Wake Forest remains committed to supporting students pursuing military leadership and service through ROTC.
You can read more about the ROTC realignment here.
And for those who have students on campus now, we have entered that portion of the summer where it is still plenty hot, but with a decent chance of afternoon storms. I for one welcome the rain, especially if it lowers temps to the high 80s :)
