Today is the last day of July, and tomorrow is August. The reality of the fall semester is really hitting! I was in a meeting earlier today about move-in, housing, and orientation, so I wanted to share some key updates in today’s blog, plus a mention for Face to Face, our speaker series.

I will be out tomorrow to help my ’27 move into a townhouse in Raleigh with their best friends, but I have preposted a Daily Deac to run for you.

Continuing student (i.e., ’26s-’28s) move in dates

We’ve had a few questions from upperclass families (P’26s-P’28s) about what move in looks like for their students.

Continuing Student Move-In runs from Thursday, August 21 through Saturday, August 23. Check-in will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

’26s-’28 students are not assigned a day or a time to move in. They can move in on whichever day best fits their schedule. In addition – and don’t kill the messenger on this one! – we do not have the capacity to offer move-in assistance (i.e., volunteers to tote their boxes to their rooms) for our upperclass students. That just happens when you move in as a first-year student.

Bed adjustment requests

When students arrive for move-in, their beds are set to the safest and highest level on the bed frame. If a bed is not at this height or if a resident prefers a lower setting, they can submit a bed adjustment work order. Note that requests must be made after a student has moved in and seen the bed height, not before.

August 11- August 24: Residents can call 336.758.4255 to request a bed adjustment.

August 25-September 7: Residents must submit a bed adjustment request using this form.

There are additional important details to note on the Bed Adjustments page, so your Deacs should review the details.

New students should complete online New Deac Orientation by Aug. 29

New students received a message yesterday reminding them that they need to complete the online New Deac Orientation course:

“The New Deac 101 Online Orientation course in Canvas was assigned to students earlier this month on July 2nd. Students should work to complete the course as soon as possible. All modules and assignments in the course should be complete no later than: Friday, August 29th.”

Face to Face single event tickets go on sale tomorrow (Aug. 1)

For Daily Deac-ers who might be interested in planning a trip to campus around one of our Face to Face speaker series, single event tickets go on sale tomorrow, August 1. As a reminder, here are the speakers:

So if you are interested in individual tickets, make a note to log on tomorrow to purchase them. See more about the students-only events and how students can get tickets. y
