It’s Humpday – the middle of the week, and it has been a very busy day for me, so we will jump right into the news.
Important updates from Deacon Health: new forms required for allergy shots, and action needed from *all* ’29 students re immunization documentation
Today I am sharing two very important items from Deacon Health: 1) new forms required for allergy shots, and 2) immunization documentation missing/incomplete for 400+ new students (‘29s and transfer students)
- New forms required for allergy shots: Deacon Health is able to give allergy shots to students. In order for your Deac to receive their injections at Deacon Health, your student needs to complete this Student Request form and their allergist needs to complete the following documentation. Students must bring both completed forms and their allergy serum vials to Deacon Health after move-in.
- Action needed from all P’29 and transfer families: We have seen over 400 new or transfer students incorrectly upload (or not upload at all) their immunization documentation and health information forms.
- All new students must upload a PDF of their immunization documentation and input the dates of each immunization in the Immunization History form so that the immunizations can be added to your medical record and seen by healthcare providers during office visits.
- Even if your new student thinks they have done this correctly, we need ALL new students to log in to the Deacon Health Portal and check their Secure Messages for any errors.
- Students who have not uploaded all required immunization documentation run the risk of being told they cannot move into their residence hall or attend classes.
- As a reminder, there are 4 forms they must complete in the Deacon Health Portal:
- Immunization History – after your student inputs the dates of all required vaccines in the form, then they attach the PDF of their official immunization record from their healthcare provider’s office
- Medical History
- Emergency Contact and Consent
- TB Screening
- 3-5 business days after your student has uploaded all forms, they must check the Secure Messages section of the Deacon Health Portal to ensure their documentation has not been returned for missing or incomplete information.
Thank you for stressing the importance of these processes with your students!
Update from The Grounds: Creekside at the Grounds residential development
When you arrive to help your students move in this August, you will see a LOT of activity around University Parkway and the LJVM Coliseum. This is the construction zone for The Grounds, the retail, entertainment, dining and sports district. The Grounds Instagram account (which is worth a follow!) shared this yesterday:
“We’re thrilled to announce @creeksideatthegrounds, the very first residential development in our transformative mixed-use development.
🏗️ This 229-unit, 521-bed student community signals the start of a new chapter for Winston-Salem’s sports and entertainment district.
🌟 Why it’s big:
✅ First vertical construction at The Grounds
✅ Anchors a $215M+ Phase One vision
✅ Offers students direct access to Wake Forest University and The Grounds’ retail village via a newly constructed multi-use path
“This is the first of several transformative projects that will define the future of The Grounds,” said Adam Parker, Senior VP at Carter.
👉 Construction is underway now, and Creekside is set to welcome students in Fall 2027.”
So this is very exciting news. What’s more, the aforementioned Adam Parker is a 2010 graduate of Wake and one of my very favorite former colleagues (he was a Fellow at Wake after graduation), so he knows the area and wants the very best for both Winston-Salem and for Wake.
Go Deacs!
