  • Pre-Wall Street Zoom for P’29s
  • Summer Session II – space still available
  • Corrected link for Storage Scholars

For those of you with Deacs in Summer Session I, they will have experienced some drizzle, some flat out rain, and a lot of grey in between. I went to the Quad Cam to get you a shot of campus and, hilariously, got this:

Rain on the Quad Cam's lens makes Wait Chapel blurry and surreal in this picture

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. That’s [what I assume is] rain running down the lens of the Quad Cam, making everything blurry. Thought you all might enjoy this surreal view of the Quad.

Two quick items today: information about a Zoom for our Pre-Wall Street track, and Summer Session II registration (space still available). Here goes!

Pre-Wall Street Zoom for P’29s

One of the faculty that works with our Pre-Wall Street Career Track, which is open to first-year students (i.e., the incoming ’29s), asked me to share this information about an info session later this summer:

“Parents/families and students of the Class of 2029 are invited to attend an information session on August 6 at 5 p.m. via Zoom to learn more about the Pre-Wall Street Career track. The track is open to first-year students interested in exploring a career in the financial industry.

The Pre‐Wall Street Career Track provides early and focused professional preparation for qualified Wake Forest students intending to pursue careers in Investment Banking, Asset Management, Sales & Trading, Wealth Management and Private Equity.

Please join us via Zoom to learn more about the opportunities via the track. The session will be recorded and provided upon request for families who cannot attend.

For questions or to request the recording, contact the Program Director, Marty Malloy, at malloym@wfu.edu.”

If that is of interest to your Deac, please make note of the details.

Summer Session II – space still available

One other academic note today: I had talked with my colleagues who work with Summer Session, and they wanted to let me know that while summer registration is winding down, we still have plenty of seats to fill in Summer II courses.

Shameless plug, I hope some of your students might consider the class I am teaching: COM 162 class, Intro to Integrated Marketing. This is a really fun class to teach (and my past students have said they enjoy it). This class is a prerequisite for the Marketing Communication minor, and is appropriate for incoming first-year students as well as upperclass students. It is taught in person.

In class, we look at topics like: what is a brand and why is it so important to manage your brand?; what factors are involved in consumer purchase decisions?; how to identify a target audience for marketing; social media marketing; crisis management and corporate reputation; and much more. We do a lot of class discussion on the ads students are seeing in social media and analyze effectiveness of institutional communications.

So for any students considering a Communication major and/or Marketing minor, this is a great first step and way to dip your toe in the pool on basic marketing and communications functions – or just bank a few more credits toward your overall degree.

The class content is accessible to all students, including incoming first years. No matter your student’s declared or intended major, the course should resonate with them because marketing is something all of us see all the time. If your student is considering Summer II, I invite them to look at my class, and be in touch with me should they have any questions (note that we may switch to an earlier class time, the 10:50-12:30 time slot; I am waiting to hear if that works for current registrants).

Corrected link for Storage Scholars

In my weekly message to incoming P’29 families on Tuesday, the link to Storage Scholars, our official moving and shipping partner, was incorrect. Use this link to visit the Storage Scholars website.

We’re almost to the end of the week – enjoy what is left of it!
