  • Weekly message for P’29s
  • Pre-Wall Street Track Zoom for P’29s

Today’s message has mostly info for our P’29s, but I also wanted to say this to our families of students who have already traveled abroad as part of their studies:

My hat is off to you.

It’s one thing to send your beloved child/children to college. That is a major leap of faith, particularly if they are going to college at some distance. It’s another thing altogether when that same beloved child/children go abroad and are navigating a foreign country.

Being abroad is an amazing experience for students’ growth and development. For parents and families, your student studying abroad can also be a poignant exercise in relinquishing control – at least it is for me 🙂 Here’s a picture my ’27 took at the famous Shibuya Scramble in Tokyo, supposedly the largest crossing in the world. I am at once excited, terrified, awed, and proud of my kiddo being nearly 7,000 miles away.

The Shibuya Scramble crossing in Tokyo

So to all of you who have watched your Deacs go many miles away – either to come to Winston-Salem or to go abroad, I am full of respect. Letting go ain’t easy.

Weekly message for P’29s

It’s Tuesday, which means we have a new weekly message for first year families. This one is about Optional Add-Ons; Understanding our Communications. It will introduce you to the idea of optional tuition insurance, renter’s insurance, Storage Scholars (a move-in/shipping service), Wake Wash (a laundry service), and Zipcars (shared cars you can rent for an hour or two or a day). This message also talks about the kinds of emails we send and how to find them just in case they are rolling to spam/quarantine. Hope it is helpful to our new families!

UPDATED 4:44 pm – It has been brought to my attention that the link to sign up for Storage Scholars in today’s email was incorrect, so I will get you the correct link in tomorrow’s Daily Deac once I have verified it with my Storage Scholars contacts. Apologies for the error!

Pre-Wall Street Track Zoom for P’29s

I received information from our Pre-Wall Street program that they wanted to share with our P’29 incoming families:

  • Parents/families and students of the Class of 2029 are invited to attend an information session on August 6 at 5 p.m. via Zoom to learn more about the Pre-Wall Street Career track. The track is open to first-year students interested in exploring a career in the financial industry.
  • The Pre‐Wall Street Career Track provides early and focused professional preparation for qualified Wake Forest students intending to pursue careers in Investment Banking, Asset Management, Sales & Trading, Wealth Management and Private Equity.
  • Please join us via Zoom to learn more about the opportunities via the track. The session will be recorded and provided upon request for families who cannot attend.
  • For questions or to request the recording, contact the Program Director, Marty Malloy, at malloym@wfu.edu.

If that is of interest to your ’29, please sign up for the Zoom.
