Today is the last Friday of academic activity for this semester: final exams are today and continue Monday-Wednesday of next week, and then we are finished! All that’s left will be to move out and/or graduate! Very exciting times.

I have a smattering of news today; as always, take what you need and scroll past anything you don’t.

Clearing up confusion about move-in dates and the parent and family checklist

I got a couple of emails yesterday from P’29s asking for clarification about the move-in dates on the New Students website, saying there were conflicting move-in dates published.

Somehow – and I am not sure how this happened – people were finding the URL for the parent and family checklist/due dates from last year – which we did not have on the current iteration of newstudents.wfu.edu (at least not that I could find).

So if you are looking for the new P’29 family checklist, please use this URL: https://newstudents.wfu.edu/parents-and-families/ and scroll down until you see the checklist, which looks like this:

Parent and Family Checklist for 2025

This is a good time to remind everyone that we do sometimes change the URL for a website that had been used in past years, so it is always best to seek your info from the source website. Similarly, if you are an upperclass parent or family, we encourage you not to share links you used in previous years, as they may no longer correct.

Wake Forest students win ACC Debate Championship

We have some belated good news to share: sophomores Destiny Hale and Hanna Shakarov won the ACC Debate Championship by defeating Southern Methodist University in the tournament’s final round on April 27 in Washington, D.C.

Wake Forest was undefeated in the preliminary debates with wins over UNC, Florida State, Miami and Notre Dame. The topic for the debate was “Resolved: Washington D.C. should be granted statehood.”

Junior named a 2025 Truman Scholar

Also in the ‘good news’ category, junior sociology major Eli Leadham has been named a 2025 Truman Scholar. The Truman Scholarship, created to support the future of public service in America, is the most competitive national scholarship program for juniors in the country. Out of 743 applications, 54 college students from 49 institutions were selected.

Postseason sports update

There are also a few good sports stories to share:

  • Men’s Tennis: The Deacons earned the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host a regional this weekend. Wake Forest will face Gardner-Webb on Friday, May 2, at 5 p.m., with the winner moving on to face either Kentucky or Old Dominion on Saturday at 5 p.m. All matches will be played at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
  • Women’s Golf: The No. 7 Deacons will compete May 5-7 as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Regionals in Lubbock, Texas.
  • Men’s Golf: The Deacons will compete starting May 12 in the NCAA Regionals in Amherst, Va.

Go Deacs!

Wishing you all a great weekend – may your weather be as nice as ours! This is what we looked like at noon on the Quad Cam today.
