Happy end of the week, Daily Deac-ers! I am finally reunited with my phone (though it is not exactly synched the way it needs to be), so I am playing catch up on news. Here’s what I have for you today:
Test of emergency systems June 9-11
We periodically test our emergency alert systems, and one is coming up soon:
“Wake Forest’s Indoor Emergency Alert Systems will be tested from Monday, June 9, through Wednesday, June 11. Testing will occur between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The tests are being conducted to ensure that the University’s indoor emergency notification systems are operating properly.” Read the full story.
2025-26 Wake Forest Fellows announced
Every year, a select group of recent graduates returns to Wake Forest as staff members, as part of our Wake Forest Fellows program:
“Twelve 2025 grads will return to their alma mater as Wake Forest Fellows. They will work throughout the campus community.
Since 2008, the Wake Forest Fellows program has provided exceptional Wake Forest College graduates with the opportunity to work in higher education administration for a year. Beginning July 1, each fellow will serve as a full-time Wake Forest staff member. In addition to working with top administrators, the fellows will participate in leadership activities and interact with faculty, staff and students to learn about the inner workings of higher education.” Read the full story.
Face to Face season tickets are on sale
Face to Face is our speaker series, where we bring notable people from the realm of politics, art, sports, and more to campus. Season tickets are now on sale for any parents and families who want to purchase them – it’s a great excuse to have a time to come visit your students 🙂
This year’s speakers will be: basketball legend Magic Johnson, Senator Mitt Romney, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster and Cynthia Erivo of Wicked fame (among other roles).
Note that students can get free tickets to the student-led event (which is separate from the evening keynote address). So you do not have to purchase tickets for your student, unless you want them to be able to go to the keynote event that is open to all ticketed guests.
Tree removals at Reynolda Hall
If you have students here for Summer Session, they might see/hear some tree work taking place tomorrow. We have a very active tree management system at Wake, and it was just announced that a couple of mature trees that are no longer thriving will be removed and new trees planted in its place:
“Two Willow Oak trees that have reached the end of their lifespan on campus will be removed on May 31. The wood that is usable from the trees will be saved to be repurposed for campus needs.
The two trees are located on the East and West sides of Reynolda Hall. The Willow Oak beside Reynolda and Lot C, adjacent to the flagpole, is declining at the highest rate. The tree no longer has energy stores to callus or seal itself from wounds, has signs of decay and wood fungus, and the canopy is in severe decline.
Following the removal, a new tree will be planted in its place.” Read the full story.
Wishing you all a great weekend – Go Deacs!
