It’s the end of the week, and as I write this, it is a picture perfect day on campus. Check out this view from the Quad Cam: look at that gorgeous Quad grass, all ready for Commencement!

For those who like to watch construction, you might want to check the Quad Cam from time to time next week to watch the stage being built and 10,000 or so chairs being laid out for our guests. It’s an impressive, well-oiled machine.

And for our P’25s, expect a final communication about Commencement details mid next week. Have a great weekend, all!

Grade posting and waitlist info (for current students, i.e., ’26s-28s)

There were a couple of academic dates of note in yesterday’s WFU Should Know student e-newsletter. Note that this e-newsletter is for current students (’25s-’28s, not the new incoming Class of 2029):

  • Final grades for May degree candidates should be viewable by May 12. Final grades for non-degree candidates should be viewable by May 20.
  • Waitlisting for Fall 2025 courses will be paused from July 16-August 11 for all undergraduate students. First-year students (i.e. ’29s) will be registering during that time.

Graduating students/families need to check their student’s account balance asap

If you have a graduating student and they have made you a Third-Party Payer in Workday, please be sure to view your student’s account and make sure there are no outstanding balances.

If your student has a balance, please make the payment as soon as possible. If your student has an outstanding balance with the University, it could disrupt the distribution of their diploma.

ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 15-17

I heard this from an intrepid Daily Deac-er yesterday: “Lets show track and field some love!!” They were correct to note that Wake is the host of the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 15-17, which will feature some of the best runners in the ACC. So if you are coming for Commencement weekend and have some time on your hands, you ought to stop by and see the action.

My source also tells me “there is a significant number of Wake student-athletes that have qualified for the East Regionals and most certainly some will qualify for Nationals.” I hope so! Go, Deacs!

Community Safety Advisory last night

After the Daily Deac went to press yesterday, there was a Community Safety Advisory (report of fondling) issued. You can read the full message at Wake Alert.

As a reminder to our new families, we do not email safety alerts to families; they are sent via the WakeSafe app. You can see instructions on how to get WakeSafe and enable notifications.

Happy Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and I am wishing a wonderful day for all the Deac moms, stepmoms, grandmas, aunties, and the special women in our Deacs’ lives.

I come back to this quote below over and over when I think about the job of parenting, or being a guiding force in a child’s life.

A mother's job is to teach her children not to need her anymore. The hardest part of that job is accepting success.

I know that Mother’s Day can also be hard for many people – especially if they have lost their moms, as I have. My wish for all the moms and special ladies in the Daily Deacdom is that you feel great love on Sunday and have a day that is perfect for you!
