It’s a chilly Tuesday here in Winston-Salem. Today’s high is only going to be 58, and we have a freeze warning for tonight. It is going to stay cool for much of this week:
Where does that leave us in our 12 Seasons of NC? Is it The Pollening? Or is it Spring? I bet our students have thoughts.
Now to today’s news…
Deacs Day of Giving is today!
I gave today! And I invite you to join me in making a gift to any area of Wake Forest today as part of Deacs Day of Giving. Make a difference and give now.
Sometimes families ask me: ‘where should I give?’ and my normal response is ‘if there is an area that has been particularly meaningful to your Deac – are they a ZSR person? Do they do a lot with Campus Rec? are they an English major?, etc. – give to an area that means a lot to them.’ If nothing comes to mind, there are all sorts of options to choose from, including the Area of Greatest Need, which is always helpful.
Thank you in advance for considering a gift! And feel free to spread the love by sharing this link on your social media and or using the hashtag #DEACSGIVE.
Symphony orchestras should be playing video game music. Here’s why.
I saw this tweet this past Friday and it resonated with me (because two of the three of us in my family are devout gamers, and one is a fantastic musician): “Professor, orchestra director and gamer, J. Aaron Hardwick shares why video game music deserves a place in the concert hall. It’s complex, emotional, and brings new audiences to classical music through a powerful, shared experience.” Read the full story here.
Entrepalooza this Thursday
This Thursday is Entrepalooza, which will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall of Scales Fine Arts Center. What is Entrepalooza, you ask?
“This annual marquee event for the Center for Entrepreneurship will feature student-entrepreneurs making investor-ready pitches as well as a Keynote Address by entrepreneur and brand-builder Veronica Miele Beard (P ’26).”
This promises to be a terrific event and it is wonderful to have a Wake Forest parent participating as the keynote speaker!
Photostories: Wakeville and Campus Day
For those of you who love seeing pictures of all the things happening at Wake, I have two new photostories to share with you: Wakeville is our student-led arts fest, which just took place on Saturday, and we have a Campus Day photostory from our accepted student event on Friday (which was a blast! I’m looking forward to this Friday’s repeat).
Change to one of our business summer courses, BEM 325
I received an update on the BEM 325 (Consumer Behavior) class that I had mentioned in an earlier Daily Deac. It will now be offered in Summer Session II. See the details below:
- *Now Summer II at 9:00AM* (the class is now in Workday and on the Summer School website)
- Online
- 3 synchronous days/week (and sometimes 2) on Zoom
- No prereqs — please note that the stated prerequisite in the Course Description (BEM 221) will *not* be enforced
- One needs not to have taken ACC 111 or ECN 150
- One needs not to be a business major to take this course
So come one, come all! Dean Herbst was kind enough to share his syllabus from the spring BEM 225 course so students can get a sense of the content.
