Midweek Thoughts
In this Issue:
- Face to Face lineup for 2025-26
- Planning ahead for prescriptions and allergy serum
- Move Out information sent to students
- Webinar April 15 for families of Sophomores & Juniors to discuss Summer Internships & Experiences
We’re at the midpoint of the week, and only about 2 1/2 weeks left of classes, and then finals will begin on April 30. It will probably feel like a whirlwind couple of weeks as our Deacs try to wrap up classes, paper writing, and/or group projects. If they sound a little harried, offer them some grace and some TLC. Finishing the semester can take a lot out of you.
Here’s all the news I have for you today. Dig in!
Face to Face lineup for 2025-26
I was not able to attend last night’s Face to Face with John Legend, but I did hear the lineup for next season’s speakers: Basketball legend Magic Johnson, Senator Mitt Romney, former National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, and actress Cynthia Erivo.
Apparently there was an audible gasp and much student excitement at the idea of Cynthia Erivo of Wicked fame. But the whole lineup looks just terrific!
Planning ahead for prescriptions and allergy serum
Deacon Health is starting to get the word out to students who take regular prescriptions or get allergy shots to prepare healthwise for the summer departure.
- Students should check to make sure they have adequate supplies of any prescription medication to last through the summer, and if they need a refill, students should submit that request as soon as possible (especially for refills of psychiatric medications, which may require an in-person visit to refill).
- For students who get allergy injections, they must pick up all their serum before they leave for the summer.
If either of those applies to your student, you may want to give them a gentle reminder that they will need to have a plan to take care of prescriptions and allergy shots (but as always, let them do the work!)
Move Out information sent to students
The Office of Residence Life and Housing sent an email to resident students this morning with some important move out information. Students should read the message carefully for all the details. Here are a few points that stuck out to me:
- Utilize the Move-Out website to ensure you are prepared for check-out to avoid potential charges.
- Plan ahead. Move out, don’t throw out! Learn more about Deacs Donate here.
- If you need Interim Housing, please visit here to learn more.
- Unless otherwise approved, [non-graduating] students should plan to depart campus by no later than 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 8.
- 24-hour quiet hours start at 5 p.m. on April 28
