Last Tuesday
In this Issue:
- Puppies on the Quad
- Late Night Breakfast
- Arbor Day celebration
- Pizza, Popsicles, and Prose event
It’s the last official Tuesday of classes for this semester. Things are getting very real now. So today I want to focus on a few events that might help your Deacs have some fun and blow off some stress as finals loom.
Puppies on the Quad
Tomorrow (Weds. April 23) from 2-4 p.m. is Puppies on the Quad, a perennial favorite. The puppies will be on Tribble Courtyard, and students will be asked to pay $3 to pet and play with puppies brought by Forsyth Humane Society.
Random aside: I wish I could bring my giant one-year old Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, Manfred, to campus to let the students pet him, but I have a strangely spooky pup who gets overwhelmed in new situations. I need to work on his people skills and maybe he’ll be ready for occasional visits by the fall.
Late Night Breakfast
I’m eager to see our students tomorrow night at the Late Night Breakfast (Weds. April 23 from 10 p.m.-midnight in The Pit). They loooooove the Late Night Breakfast. Not only is it free food, but it is fun to have faculty and staff be the ones plying them with pancakes and breakfast foods late at night.
Arbor Day celebration
I received word this morning of an event that might be fun for your Deacs on Friday afternoon:
“The campus community is invited to be a part of the university’s annual Tree Campus Higher Education certification process by participating in Wake Forest’s 2025 Arbor Day Celebration. Join the festivities this Friday, April 25 from 3:00–5:00 p.m. between Babcock and Johnson Residence Halls for a ceremonial tree planting, service-learning event, and cookout.
This annual event is coordinated in partnership by the Office of Sustainability, Residence Life & Housing, and the Facilities Landscaping Services team to honor National Arbor Day and the thoughtful stewardship of our campus trees.
Now in our 14th year as a recognized Tree Campus Higher Education (formerly Tree Campus USA), Wake Forest maintains a robust campus tree care plan with policies, practices, and guidelines for the care and maintenance of the thousands of trees located on our over 300-acre Reynolda campus.”
Our green spaces are such an important part of the campus experience, since our climate is such that we can be outdoors for many months of the year. Grateful to all the folks on campus who play a role in caring for our trees and our beautiful campus.
Pizza, Popsicles, and Prose event
The Program for Leadership and Character is hosting an upcoming event called Pizza, Popsicles, and Prose. This is an opportunity for students to take a short study break and join us for pizza, popsicles, and other treats.
In addition, members of the Program for Leadership and Character team have selected some of their favorite books and we will offer free copies for students to take home to read over the summer.
Pizza, Popsicles, and Prose will be held on Tuesday, April 29 for 2-4 p.m. in Starling Hall.
These are not the only things happening – students can check The Link for more – but as finals approach, there are likely to be fewer events by student organizations because students will be locked in and studying. But they will still have Wake the Library to look forward to!
