Fifteen Minutes and Fifteen Pictures
In this Issue: I share 15 pictures from early Tuesday afternoon
Editor’s Note: this post was published this morning, but we are amending to acknowledge the terrible events that took place this afternoon at Florida State, our fellow ACC school. Dr. Wente extended her deepest sympathies to all who were impacted.
A couple of days ago I was on campus to help another office with a project. I was 15 minutes early for my meeting, so I used that time to walk around and take 15 pictures to show you what I was seeing.
Before I get started, let me preface by saying it was an absolute stunner of a day. It was a little chilly because there was a fair amount of wind, maybe 70 degrees. But the wind and the sun felt so good. Here goes.
I started out by parking near Collins Hall and taking the stairs up to the lower Quad level, coming out by my own first-year hall, Bostwick. If you have never paid attention to this angle, look how perfectly the spire of Wait Chapel can be seen dead center over the roof of Reynolda Hall.
I made my way up the sidewalk to the Mag Quad (aka Manchester Plaza). There are lots of yard signs on campus advertising various things. For the first time in many years, we are doing a Spring Late Night Breakfast, which will be a great event.
There were a ton of students enjoying the Mag Quad, and I went up to the Mag Patio so I could get an aerial view. I was stunned to see no one was on the patio at all. Which is crazy because it was such a nice day.
But I did get my aerial shot.
From there, I walked along the side of Reynolda Hall to go up to the Quad. I always like to see what kinds of flyers are hanging on the stairs, just to see what is there.
The Quad – predictably – was beautiful.
Knowing that my time to wander was short, I figured I’d wander back over by the ZSR Library. On my way there, I saw mounds and mounds of pollen in the curbs.
When the wind gusted, which it did often, it would blow the pollen all over the place. I’m not allergic, but even I could feel that weird taste you get in the back of your throat when you have sucked in some pollen.
As I got towards ZSR, I saw a big banner for Earth Day.
I figured I’d pop into Smiths in ZSR and see if it was busy (and if not, I would get a coffee). I try not to take close up pictures of our students, so I got their feet instead (and did not get a coffee). I like to imagine that some of you will be seeing this and somehow know those are your student’s legs 🙂
After I left ZSR, I got a nice shot of the students who were enjoying the day on the Tribble Courtyard.
And even got a close up of some of the public art figures. These people are all made of chain link. I’ve always liked these.
On the patio side of Benson, there were a number of sandwich boards advertising things, or inviting students to take a survey, plus this tent.
There was a big mural on the wall between the Mag Quad level and the level above where the entrance to the Pit is. It’s advertising our Master’s level business programs, which are excellent.
My time to get to my event was looming, so I walked back over to Benson. I saw on the ground a million little round blossoms that had blown off the trees. It looked a bit like confetti. Very pretty.
And this last picture was something I took between my meeting and my office hours in Carswell Hall: all the Adirondack chairs around the fire pit closest to Tribble Hall were empty, so I made myself at home and did my work from there. What you are seeing on my screen is a blank Daily Deac, just waiting to be written.
So that’s 15 minutes in 15 pictures. I hope you felt like you were with me experiencing the glorious day that was Tuesday 🙂
