  • Family Weekend football tickets go on sale tomorrow (May 1)
  • Some fun news: Senior Showcase, Zozobra, and a photostory about a day in the life of women’s golfer Carolina Lopez-Chacarra

Final exams begin today, and they will keep our Deacs occupied over the next week or so. Packing and getting ready for move-out (or Commencement!) will also be a big driver of your student’s time in the near term.

Families, help us by encouraging your Deacs to recycle and donate items vs. just throw all of their unwanted items out. There is a Deacs Donate website that will help you understand where to throw out items vs recycle/donate.

You are so close to the finish line on the spring semester, Deacs! I am cheering for all our students to finish strong!

New Students website launches tomorrow (May 1) for the Class of 2029 and their parents/families

Tomorrow morning – likely around 9 a.m. – our New Students website will go live for the Class of 2029 (note that if you click on newstudents.wfu.edu today (Wednesday 4/30), you will see old information; we are currently editing the site in the background and will push the new version out tomorrow morning).

There is a Parents and Families section and a checklist of required action items vs recommended items. P’29 families will want to review the website thoroughly after launch, but note that I will also be emailing all P’29 families every Tuesday with just-in-time info.

Family Weekend football tickets go on sale tomorrow (May 1)

Tickets for the Family Weekend football game (Sept. 27 against GA Tech) will go on sale tomorrow: Thursday, May 1 at 10 a.m. Mark your calendar.

NOTE: Students can get a free ticket to sit in the students’ football section with the Screamin’ Demon Rewards App (ticket claims open at noon the Monday before the game: Sept. 22 at noon ET). If your student wants to sit with you, you will need to purchase a ticket for your student.

For inquiries or to purchase Family Weekend premium or season tickets options, please call the Wake Forest Ticket Office at 336.758.3322 ext 1 or complete this form to be contacted. The below premium options sell out quickly:

While you can order your football tickets on May 1 via Athletics, registration for Family Weekend events doesn’t open until July 8 (more details on events will come later this summer, but generally speaking the weekend begins on Friday early afternoon and concludes with brunch on Sunday).

Some fun stories

My colleagues in University Marketing and Communications are always finding great stories to tell – sometimes it is of research being done, sometimes they are human interest stories, sometimes they are about Wake Forest traditions or events. Here are a few that passed through my inbox this week that I thought you might like

Senior Showcase

From Winston-Salem to Cape Town, Gah’Ques Ligons (‘25) has embraced every opportunity at Wake Forest. Studying Spanish and health studies, he’s preparing for a future in dentistry and service. Inspired by his grandfather and driven by purpose, he’s ready to care for communities at home and across the globe. He also talks about the impact his grandfather had made on him throughout his life. Check out this video by one of my talented colleagues and prepare to be inspired!

There’s a name for that feeling of not being able to get your bearings in an uncertain world: Zozobra

Understanding the word “zozobra” and the insights of Mexican philosophers behind it may help bring people together and create community during times of uncertainty. Associate Professor of Philosophy Francisco Gallegos, who studies the philosophy of emotions, says zozobra names the feeling of disorientation many have felt in response to disruptive political and social changes. A day in the life of women’s golfer Carolina Lopez-Chacarra

You may recall from a Daily Deac a couple of weeks ago that there was a video with one of our student-athletes, Carolina Lopez-Chacarra. We now also have a really interesting photostory about Carolina: it’s a day in her life, following her to class, practice, and more.

And oh, by the way, did you know that she made the cut to the US Open? GO DEACS!
