It’s a chilly and overcast morning on the final day of classes before Spring Break. While normally this sort of weather might put a pall on our students’ mood, they are likely buoyed by the fact that Spring Break is about to start (or has started if they had no Friday classes).
My talented colleagues have published Spring in the Forest, looking at the first blooms of spring. There will be many more erupting in the coming weeks.
Whether your Deacs are coming home to you, visiting someplace else, or staying on campus, I wish them a safe and restful break.
ZSR Research Guides and assistance
There will no doubt be students who have research papers due before the end of the semester. One of the best ways to do good research is to tap into the suite of research resources available through our incredible ZSR Library:
“Looking for the best resources? Start with our research guides. We’ve got course guides, subject guides, and more! Not sure where to start? Just ask!”
See more about the Research Guides, or how to book an appointment with the research librarian for your subject.
Senior Class Campaign and Bell Tower Tours
Our next item up today is for our families with graduating students (looking at you, P’25s!). Our spring Bell Tower Tours are a favorite for our seniors. They get to head up into the heights of Wait Chapel and add their name to the interior and take some super cool pics (see below). Here is what my colleague who works with these tours wants graduating families to know:
“For any seniors who wish to be eligible to take a tour of the Wait Chapel Bell Tower – a pre-graduation ritual for many – seniors need to make a Senior Class Campaign gift of at least $20 here. Note that the gift must be made by the student (not by the parents “In honor of” their student).
Seniors will need to make a gift by 3/23 to be in the first wave of invitations to book a Bell Tower tour; the first invitation wave will go out around 3/25.
Tours are tentatively scheduled to be held on four afternoons in April: 4/14, 4/16, 4/22, 4/23.
Note that tours are limited, and booking will be first-come, first-served for seniors who have made a Senior Class Campaign gift. Once tours reach capacity, booking will be closed.”
Senior Showcase
P’25s, did you know there is a Senior Showcase website? It tells the remarkable stories of some of our seniors, and they are really inspirational to read. This is part of our Out of the Forest website, which is meant to help seniors (and their families) with the transition from college to What’s Next.
Hope you and your graduating Deacs will check it out.
Daily Deac will be dark next week for Spring Break
Happily, Wake’s Spring Break is the same week as my ’27’s break from NC State, so I will be out all week on PTO. So the Daily Deac will be dark all next week, unless there is some sort of major news that needs sharing.
If your Deacs are coming home for Spring Break, spoil them rotten! They will appreciate every bit of TLC you can provide, or if you make their favorite foods, or offer to do their laundry, etc. And if they are heading someplace fun for vacation, consider Venmo’ing them so they can have a little splurge. I always loved when my [now late] father would shove a $20 in a card and mail it to me 🙂
Have a great Spring Break, all!
