April is the ideal weather month: beautiful flowers, warm days (but not too warm!) and lots to do. Today I am sharing a few opportunities for fun things coming up in April.

Earth Month activities

“Earth Month officially kicks off on Sunday with our Spring Equinox Celebration (open to students, faculty, staff, & families!) in the Campus Garden.

Throughout the month, we’ll have more than 20 events organized by offices, clubs, and programs across campus.”

You (or your Deacs!) can view the full schedule on the Earth Month website.

The Tempest at WFU Theatre

It seems like each year (or maybe every other year?), our WFU Theatre program puts on one of Shakespeare’s plays, and it is always a joy and wonder to see our students acting in them. This year’s offering is The Tempest:

“WFU Theatre presents The Tempest, by William Shakespeare. Directed by Michael Kamtman. Friday, April 4, 7:30 p.m., with additional showtimes April 5 & 10-12 at 7:30 p.m.; April 6 & 13 at 2 p.m. Tedford Stage, Scales Fine Arts Center.”

Wakeville arts fest on 4/5

there is a terrific event called Wakeville that will happen on April 5:

“Wakeville is back—bigger, bolder, and greener than ever! Now in its third year, Wakeville III is evolving into an Arts & Sustainability Festival.

Wakeville is a student-led, interdisciplinary arts festival at Wake Forest with a focus on sustainability. There will be many creative offerings in and around Scales Fine Arts Center and Davis Field, including music, dance, theater, visual art, film, comedy and more. On April 5, 2025, Wakeville will shine a spotlight on our vibrant campus arts community and showcase the entrepreneurial spirit of our creative and committed students.

100+ students. 12+ disciplines. 1 day.
This is your arts community.”

Maya Angelou Garden Party 4/6

The Maya Angelou Garden Party is an annual event hosted in Bailey Park to honor Dr. Maya Angelou by celebrating community, storytelling, and art:

“Hosted by the Wake Downtown Student Ambassadors in partnership with Wake Downtown and ZSR Library each year, this event is free and open to the Wake Forest and broader Winston-Salem community. It includes poetry reading and spoken word performances on display to honor Dr. Angelou’s literary legacy. Food, music, and lawn games are also part of the celebration. This year’s event will include a new addition, with a hands-on art activity. Click here to see photos and content from previous years.”

Reminder of John Legend Face to Face and how to get student tickets

I happened to see this on the Face to Face Instagram account today and this is one your Deacs want to be aware of: how to get tickets to the John Legend Face to Face event:

“We can’t believe that we are less than two weeks away from our last event of Season 4! Students, if you haven’t yet reserved your FREE tickets, be sure to do so now!

Student Registration link can be found in our profile. We hope to see you on April 8 at LJVM!”

John Legend is an incredible talent – what a voice! – and this promises to be an amazing evening. In addition, students who sign up for tickets and go to the event will be there for the big reveal of the Face to Face lineup for 2025-26.

There looks like there are still some single tickets available for purchase if parents/families want to be with us for John Legend (highly recommend if you can!)

There are many, many more opportunities for events and activities in April. Encourage your Deac to find them on The Link and to opt in to as many as they can!
