It’s the start of a new week and tomorrow it will be the first day of the last full month of school this spring, which feels impossible. This week looks like warm temps (the lowest high temp this week is 68, and Friday’s high looks to be an impossible 88). There are storms in the forecast this afternoon and evening, which would be welcome: a good rain would wash a lot of the ubiquitous pollen away!
Students should stay alert to weather conditions
This morning, a Wake Alert message went out to campus to share that “The National Weather Service is forecasting severe thunderstorms in our area starting late this afternoon and into the evening. The University is monitoring weather conditions and advises campus community members to pay attention to changing weather conditions.” Read the full message at Wake Alert.
Families, encourage your Deacs to be alert to weather conditions. If you want to be receiving Wake Alert messages, be sure to download the WakeSafe app and enable notifications.
Special events with Wake Forest parent Brooke Shields (P’25, ’28)
There are a couple of events coming up with a name you all will surely recognize: Brooke Shields, actor and mom to two Deacs! She will be here for a student event, where she will direct daughter Rowan and Patrick Fenley in scenes from Love Letters:
This event is free and open to all students (they can see more at the QR code in the graphic).
She is also giving graciously of her time the following evening. Parents and families (and any other friends of Wake Forest) are cordially invited to purchase tickets to the evening event where Ms. Shields will perform Love Letters, followed by a reception and a conversation with our alumnus, faculty member, and former parent Mike Huie.
You can purchase tickets here. I should note that proceeds from tickets will support the Department of Theatre and Dance at Wake Forest.
What an amazing opportunity to see Brooke Shields perform and hear more about her remarkable career. I hope you will join us!
Holi photostory
This past weekend was our Holi celebration on campus. This colorful event is a student favorite, and my intrepid colleagues who work with photography were out there to capture all the festivities. View the photostory here.

Housing selection update email
The Office of Residence Life and Housing shared an email about housing selection times being available for current students (i.e., ’25s-’28s). The email contains a lot of important info, timelines, and to-dos for our resident Deacs.
And now that selection times are out, it might be a good reminder to students to be kind to your roommate group (see previous Daily Deac for more on this.)
That’s all I have for today, Deac families! Make it a great week!
