As with most Tuesdays, I have a smattering of news items for you. We will start off today with one item for students staying on campus during the Thanksgiving Break; I am hoping by Thursday we will have the Thanksgiving Hours of Operation website to share with you. And don’t miss the final story. It’s very special.
How to order a Thanksgiving meal for students staying on campus during Thanksgiving break
While most of our students will go home for Thanksgiving, not all will. So if your Deac is staying on campus, our wonderful partners at Deacon Dining are offering them the chance to order a holiday meal in advance:
“Staying on campus for Thanksgiving? Order a Thanksgiving meal:
- Email wfucater@wfu.edu or call 336.758.5610 during business hours Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Meals must be reserved by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25.
- Please include your student ID # and any dietary restrictions in the request. You will be charged 1 meal swipe.
- Your holiday meal will be available for pick up at Shorty’s on Wednesday, Nov. 27 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Your holiday meal includes: roast turkey, honey glazed ham, homemade mashed potatoes, sauteed green beans, harvest tossed salad, bread and butter, pumpkin pie. Heating instructions included.”
If your Deac will be on campus, this might be a great option for them.
Preparing for the Upcoming Breaks
The Office of Residence Life and Housing sent resident students a message about how to prepare for the upcoming breaks. This message has important information about November health and safety inspections, as well as the closing of the residential communities for Winter Break.
Men’s Soccer to host NCAA Tournament Play
This good news hit my inbox:
“Following their impressive ACC title run, the Wake Forest men’s soccer team has been selected as the No. 8 seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament and have earned a first round bye. The Deacs will host their second round matchup on Sunday, November 24 at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Maryland and Long Island match. Purchase your tickets for Sunday!”
For P’28s: various messages for you and your students
Mondays are the days when typically a lot of first-year student messaging gets sent, including Letters So Dear and Life in The Forest.
For our P’28s, we have your Weekly Message – and this is a timely issue: Do’s and Don’ts of Thanksgiving Break. If you missed a week, you can read past issues here.
How to order The Howler (our yearbook)
I had received a couple of questions about The Howler, our yearbook, and heard this back from Howler staff that they were meeting with their publisher to set up the sales website and that people should be able to start purchasing the book by tomorrow.
To order a copy of the 2024-25 yearbook, you will want to go to www.yearbookordercenter.com and use Order Number 13941.
Queen Cinderella and the Rainbow Magic
Last but certainly not least, this is a very special story, told by a few of my colleagues:
“When 7-year-old playwright and actress Gracie asked to use her Make-A-Wish to write and perform in her own play, the Wake Forest theatre faculty and students jumped at the opportunity to make her dreams come true. Through the combined efforts of three student playwrights and 50 faculty and student volunteers, Gracie’s vision for Queen Cinderella and the Rainbow Magic came to life in front of a packed house in the Ring Theatre on November 9.”

If this story doesn’t make your heart feel full, I don’t know what will. Here’s to you, sweet Gracie.
