Another beautiful fall day here in the Forest. Let’s get straight to today’s news!
Last free mobile flu shot clinic tomorrow (10/24)
If your Deac has not gotten a flu shot, Deacon Health is offering their final free mobile flu shot clinic tomorrow (Thursday 10/24) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Benson Center.
I suspect they will be positioned just outside the food court near the stairs (that is where I saw them last time). The process could not be easier – students walk up and it just takes a few minutes.
Having the flu during school is absolutely dreadful, so encourage your Deacs to consider getting their flu vaccine. As we head into flu season, it might also be worth a gentle reminder to your Deacs to follow all the regular public health measures, such as: covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, washing your hands and/or using sanitizers regularly, not touching your face, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces, etc. Updated COVID vaccines are available at many places off campus (e.g., CVS, Target, etc.) if they want to get that, too.
Halloween Game Night this Friday
Is your Deac looking for some spooky, pre-Halloween fun? Encourage them to go to Halloween Game Night:
“Join ZSR Library, Board Game Club, Esports Association, Rook & Bishop, and World Tea Association for an evening of Halloween fun! In addition to games and tea tastings from our partnering student organizations, the ZSR Ambassadors are hosting a costume contest & trick or treating in the stacks! There will be pizza, tarot card readers and Halloween raffle prizes, too! Costumes are encouraged!“
Love and Information coming in Nov. to the Tedford Stage
Love and Information (by Caryl Churchill, directed by Stephen Wrentmore) is coming to the Tedford Stage! Show dates are November 1-2 & 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. and November 3 & 10 at 2:00 p.m. on the Tedford Stage, Scales Fine Art Center:
“Love and Information invites us to consider how we ‘know’ and how that knowledge informs the ways we navigate our human experience. Through a montage of vignettes and a collage of over 100 characters, Caryl Churchill creates an ingenious and inventive commentary on the information age. Where the soundbite erodes complexity and algorithms flood us with the trivial–sex and celebrity, conflict, and cats–Churchill prompts us to wonder how we will have the wisdom to discern what is essential from all this noise.”
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens, or $10 for students.
For any families who might be thinking of making a trip to campus to see the production, you may want to time it so you can come to this bonus event: “there will also be a symposium on neuroscience, religion, philosophy, and artificial intelligence on Thursday, November 7 at 6:00 p.m. on the Tedford Stage. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will follow.”
Our productions are always incredible. Even if you can’t come, encourage your Deacs to go see the performance!
Cybersecurity Awareness Month message on phishing
Information Systems sent out the 3rd message in Cybersecurity Awareness Month; this message is about phishing and how to report phishing schemes students may get.
Unfortunately there are some bad actors out in the cyberworld and they do try to tempt people to click on links in emails with attractive messages. Just recently I was sent a message that looked like it was from a colleague who was offering – if you can believe it – to sell a Stradivarius violin.
Students need to remain suspicious of unexpected emails that offer ‘too good to be true’ offers, among other things.
