Happy Homecoming to all who are celebrating! Wake Forest hosts general Homecoming events each year, as well as special events on all the 5 year anniversaries of your graduation – so 5th year reunion, 10th year, etc. all the way up to your 50th reunion, when you become a Golden Deac.
For faculty and staff, Homecoming is always a special weekend where you might be able to reunite with some of the former students/now alumni who were special to you. It’s also a weekend where a lot of us have Homecoming responsibilities (myself included), so this will be a brief post.
Homecoming events for alumni families
For our alumni families in the Daily Deacdom – especially those in reunion years (i.e., classes ending in 4 and 9), Homecoming is this weekend. You can see the schedule, find helpful info about parking and shuttles, the Homecoming FAQ, and more on the Homecoming website.
Your students should join us for Party So Dear this afternoon. It runs from 4-7 p.m. on the Mag Quad (Manchester Plaza), and there will be live music from Sol Fusion starting at 4:30. This will give them a preview of coming attractions for what it is like when they return for Homecoming after graduation!
Study Abroad Fair Thurs. 9/19
If you have a student who is considering study abroad (and I hope they are! It was my best semester at Wake, with the most personal growth), encourage them to attend the Study Abroad Fair next Thursday. Here is the information:
“Study Abroad Fair: Thursday, Sept. 19, in Benson 401 from noon-4 p.m. This event showcases Wake Forest semester, summer and short-term abroad programs as well as affiliate abroad programs. Talk to WFU Study Abroad advisors, faculty and affiliate representatives about the program you are interested in applying for!”
Students will want to be doing their research, reflecting on their interests, and working with our GPS office as they consider their study abroad options. They also might want to consider our exceptional “Study Away” domestic program: Wake Washington. I’ve had several advisees do that program, and it is an incredible one.
Latinx Hispanic Heritage Month calendar
Our Intercultural Center has published their calendar of events for Latinx Hispanic Heritage month. Events begin tomorrow and run through the next month. Encourage your Deacs to join in on these terrific programs!
Final reminder re Health Insurance Waiver before the $1,379 charge is final
We included a final reminder in our WFU Should Know student e-newsletter yesterday about students needing to complete a health insurance waiver by 9/15. We wanted families to get one last reminder too:
“Student accounts have been charged $1,379 for our Student Blue health insurance program for all students who have not submitted a waiver. If you do NOT need our health insurance, you must go through the waiver process ASAP. Waivers are due September 15.”
