Happy Tuesday, Deac families! Registration is likely on our new students’ minds, as most of them begin registering for classes tomorrow. And I hope that Family Weekend event registration is on your minds, Deac families: it opens tomorrow at 10 a.m. See below for details.

Family Weekend event registration opens July 10 at 10 a.m.

Family Weekend event registration will open tomorrow (Wednesday, July 10th) at 10 a.m. Here is the tentative schedule for the weekend:

  • Registration (i.e., packet pick up) for Family Weekend will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday morning, September 27th. We will host our annual Deacon Family Festival that afternoon, have dinner options around campus, and special dining discounts at select Winston-Salem eateries (no advance registration needed). We will end Friday with the Night of Student Entertainment in Wait Chapel.
  • Saturday the 28th will feature a variety of activities, which include access to the student tailgate area before the Wake Forest vs. Louisiana football game.
    • Join your student at the DEACTOWN Student Tailgate prior to the football game vs the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns! Located at the outdoor courts of the Miller Tennis Center, the student tailgate begins three hours prior to kickoff. The space features live music, food trucks (free while supplies last) and fun with other families.
  • On Sunday the 29th, we conclude the weekend with a farewell brunch (tickets required; purchase during registration) and Club Sports Jamboree.
  • Other activities and experiences such as tours, lectures, presentations and the like are in the works and will be added to family weekend.wfu.edu. For those still looking for hotel accommodations, please peruse the Visit Winston Salem website for current hotel listings in the area; also consider Airbnb, VRBO, etc. in the Piedmont Triad area (i.e., Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem). We will be updating the list of activities and Winston-Salem dining discounts on Friday, September 20th, when we receive notice of kickoff time.

So mark your calendars and plan to join us for a great Family Weekend!

Reminder for P’28s whose students will be registering July 10-12

Most of our ’28 students will be registering for fall classes tomorrow through Friday. They have received messages from the Office of the University Registrar about registration, and there are ample resources on the New Students website, including this Registration Step-by-Step Guide.

A few final thoughts before they register:

  • Make sure they check for holds and clear those ASAP
  • Make sure they have completed Workday Onboarding ASAP
  • During registration, students should check the Registration add errors section of this website for errors. If they need additional help, students should follow these troubleshooting guidelines:
    • During registration week, contact the Office of the University Registrar for assistance with using Workday via chat or email
    • For questions regarding course selection and advising, contact the Office of Academic Advising.

For P’28s: Weekly Update and ’28 message

It’s Tuesday, which means our Weekly Update for new families has gone out; this week’s message is about academics and registration.

Yesterday our ’28s received their weekly update from the Orientation office.

Message from Storage Scholars (our move in and shipping partner)

The following message is from Storage Scholars, our storing, moving, and shipping partners.

“First-year move-in day is a special experience for students and families that should be memorable. Why spend it lugging items from your car to your room all day or running around department stores frantically looking for decorations?

Instead, arrive at school with everything already ready and waiting for you in your room on move-in day.

Our partners, Storage Scholars, will make your move-in a breeze!”

Read the full message.

Please note that the choice to use Storage Scholars – or not! – is up to you and every family can decide what is best for them. We simply want you to know this option is available if it is helpful to you.
