Nearly August!
In this Issue:
- Reminder to opt in to Campus Safety Alerts (and a reminder for your students)
- Workday Financials job aid (to pay tuition by 8/1) and how to get your password reset if needed
- International Black Theatre Festival begins today
- Message to ’28s
There are a few items on the administrative front to share with you, Deac families, and also some local arts and culture to be aware of as we approach August. We’ll dig right in!
Reminder to opt in to Campus Safety Alerts (and a reminder for your students)
This is for our new P’28s and transfer families, as well as any others who might have missed it last year. Campus Safety Alerts are not sent to families via email; families must download the WakeSafe app to receive alerts. These instructions will show you how to download WakeSafe and opt in to notification of alerts.
We also need you to ask your students (of all years) if they have Alertus on their laptop:
“All students are asked to download Alertus, a new tool to the University’s existing emergency communication plan. Alertus software allows University Police to send a pop-up, full-screen desktop warning when immediate safety actions are needed. Students can download the software on their laptop to add the pop-up alert option to their computer so that they don’t miss an urgent notification that would require them to take immediate action. Once installed, a new icon will appear on the computer’s system tray or menu bar to let the student know Alertus is installed.”
Many of our students shut off or silence their phones for class (as they should) but use their laptops to take notes. Alertus would be able to signal an emergency on their laptops at a time their phone might be off/silent, so this is very important.
Workday Financials job aid (to pay tuition by 8/1) and how to get your password reset if needed
Tuition is due 8/1, and this jobaid will help walk authorized third party payers through the process of paying tuition. The job aid also tells you what to do if you have lost the emails that had your temporary password in it (or you forgot your password).
International Black Theatre Festival begins today
Late July/early August in Winston-Salem is always an exciting time, because the International Black Theatre Festival is in town. If you happen to be in the area, do treat yourself to some of the great works from the festival, including two with ties to Wake Forest.
In addition to all the wonderful performances around town, Wait Chapel and Allegacy Stadium will be lit in purple, joining the City of Winston-Salem in using purple lighting to celebrate the week-long festival.
Message to ’28s
Every Monday, our new ’28s get a message from the Office of Orientation, New Student and Transition Programs, or OTP (yeah you know me!) This week’s message is Roommate Relationships, Reminders & Deadlines! We also have an archive of all new student messages if you wish to review previous weeks.
