Happy one-week-until-Commencement, P’24s! We can’t wait to welcome you to campus and celebrate your Deacs’ achievements!

Campus prep is hopping. We started the assembly of the Commencement stage, which you can see on the Quad Cam. Here are a couple of pictures from Commencements past to give you a sense of the size and scope of the event:

Wake Forest University holds its 2022 Commencement Ceremony on Hearn Plaza on Monday, May 16, 2022. President Susan R. Wente shakes hands with each graduate.

Keep an eye on the weather and send all invocations for good weather for the week ahead!

Wake Forest celebrates endowed chairs and professors

I ran across this story last week and thought it might be interesting for our families to see how some of our faculty think about their role as teacher-scholars and how they interact with students:

“On May 2, Provost Michele Gillespie held a celebration to honor the University’s distinguished endowed chairs and professors. During the event, Gillespie spoke of the impact these outstanding teacher-scholars have on the Wake Forest community. Business professor Julie H. Wayne, psychology professor Eranda Jayawickreme, and religion professor Mary Foskett shared reflections on what it means to them to hold an endowed position. Read more about what they had to say on the Provost’s website here.”

The quotes from these faculty really get to the heart of the way they feel about our students and the opportunities to help inspire thought and learning, and the critical relationships students can form with faculty. Hope you will give it a read.

Chamber Choir tour

I am a little late to the party on this one, but just got sent a link to the 2024 Chamber Choir tour. Families in TN and New Orleans have a chance to see them this week, and P’24s at Baccalaureate.

If you have the ability to do so, come out and support our Chamber Choir!

Get out your brooms – it was a sweep! [in baseball]

Baseball fans rejoiced this weekend – not only did we have superb weather, our baseball Deacs played superbly, sweeping #2 ranked Clemson and clinching a spot in the ACC Tournament. You can read the details here.

The Deacs face off against Liberty tomorrow at 7 p.m. here at Couch Stadium.

In other Athletics news…

Baseball isn’t the only Wake Forest team in action:

  • Our men’s tennis team knocked off Stanford 4-1 to reach the NCAA Quarterfinals!
  • The men’s golf team is set to make their 25th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance today at the Austin Regional at The University of Texas Golf Club.
  • The men’s and women’s track and field teams garnered 11 All-ACC athletes and 19 scorers over the course of the 2024 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Georgia Tech.
  • In women’s golf, Rachel Kuehn has been named a finalist for the ANNIKA Award, which is presented annually to the top Division I women’s golfer. Kuehn was also named a finalist for the award in May 2022 and May 2023. The winner will be announced on Golf Channel on Tuesday, May 21.

For our P’28s

The Office of Orientation, New Students, and Transition Programs (OTP for short) sent a message today to all incoming students who will be new to campus this fall. Read it here.

Tomorrow I will be sending the parent/family version to our P’28 families. Stay tuned!

So lots of great things going on right now – and the greatest thing to come one week from today!

In the words of our late and beloved former basketball coach, Skip Prosser: it’s a beautiful day in the forest of Wake.
