If you are a fan of how things are built, I would encourage you to keep an eye on the Quad Cam in the coming week as we prepare for Commencement. You’ll see a giant stage built, something like 14,000 chairs laid out with surgical precison, and a small army of our incredible facilities, landscaping, and other staff making the magic happen.
Last day of finals!
Today is the last day of finals. Hallelujah! Our students are finishing their last exams and turning in their last projects and papers. Now for the faculty comes the grading! And that is done in segments – we first grade final exams for students who are degree candidates in May, then we do everyone else.
Final grades for May degree candidates should be viewable by May 14. Final grades for non-degree candidates should be viewable by May 22.
Wake Forest expands prestigious Stamps Scholarship to returning students
This news was shared yesterday and I thought this might be of interest to families:
“Wake Forest is excited to announce an expansion of the Stamps Scholarship Program that will enable returning sophomores, juniors and seniors to apply for the prestigious Stamps Scholarship. Previously only available to incoming first-year students, the extension of the Stamps Scholarship Program to returning students will allow Wake Forest to identify and support exceptionally talented, engaged students who have exemplified leadership, perseverance, academic excellence, service, and innovation during their time on campus.” Read more.

Good luck to men’s tennis in NCAA Super Regionals
My friends in Athletics have let me know that “Following a perfect 2-0 weekend to open the NCAA Tournament, the No. 6-seeded Wake Forest men’s tennis team will host Stanford Friday evening at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. First serve between the Demon Deacons and the Cardinal is slated for 5 p.m.” Read more.
Good luck to our tennis Deacs!
The Alumni Engagement Office launches Wake Women podcast on May 10
I got a message from colleagues in the Alumni Engagement office about a new podcast. Don’t let the office name fool you: this is not open only to alumni, but to all Wake Foresters:
“Wake Women is a podcast for, by and about the women of Wake Forest University. In each episode, fifth-generation alumna Mary Tribble (’82, MA ’19) sits down with a female Wake Forester who inspires her. This show brings you intelligent, thought-provoking reflections from successful women whose experiences will inspire you to be your best self. Episode 1 of the podcast features actor, improviser and writer Kate Lambert (’03), who will keep you laughing with stories about her career in the entertainment industry. Wake Women launches on May 10, and episodes drop biweekly on Fridays. Listen here.”
Hope interested families will check it out!
Understanding which social media accounts are affiliated with WFU/verified by administrators
We got a message this week from a parent who shared a Facebook site that looked like it was affiliated with Wake Forest (they were using our name and logo, but were advertising other things) but they had no link to us officially. This family was concerned about misrepresentation and families potentially being duped. (As an aside, we always appreciate knowing if a social media site seems to be suggesting they are affiliated with Wake if they are not).
So our team wanted to clarify that these are the University’s official WFU social media accounts. These are run by, and monitored by, Wake Forest staff. We also have an official Wake Parents and Families Facebook page ( Facbook.com/WFUParents), which is run by Wake Forest staff. You can see a pic below of our WFUParents site. Please note that our official Wake Forest parent and family site is not a group you need to join/be admitted to; it is an informational page anyone can access.
There are also unofficial groups (i.e., membership-only Facebook groups and other social media spaces run by private individuals) where Wake Forest families can request to join to connect with each other. I joined the ones at NC State for general parents/families as well as the Class of 2027 families group. Those can be a hugely helpful way to connect with other families and seek support, particularly for incoming families trying to navigate the start of school.
That said, the caveat to those groups is that information about University processes, procedures, policies, etc. can (and do!) change all the time. The one place that you can guarantee you’ll see the correct information is on the Wake Forest website.
Well-intended families sometimes share incorrect information, links to outdated processes, etc. – not out of malice, but because they did not realize something has changed. Just this spring, we have rolled out new registration systems and will be rolling out new financial system in July. Wake Forest staff does not moderate those membership-only Facebook groups, as they are privately run and not affiliated with the University.
So I would urge families with questions about process, policy, etc. always to go directly to a WFU source: our Who to Contact for page is a great place to start, but you can also hit ‘reply’ on any Daily Deac to ask me.
Happy Mother’s Day! (a little early)
Wishing an early Happy Mother’s Day to all our Deac moms, stepmoms, grandmas, and all the special women who play a mothering role in our students’ lives. Someone sent me this funny for Mother’s Day a while back, so thought I would share it with you.
Wishing safe travels home to all our ’25s-’27s. And to our ’24s, enjoy the pause between finals and Commencement!
