Big win over Duke!

I sure hope you were watching our Deacs play Duke this past Saturday. Duke is always a formidable opponent, so getting a win over them is always a huge moment. Our guys brought us an 83-79 win in a packed Joel Coliseum.

You can see a recap story here. There are some great shots of the Quad following the game, and other info on the Wake Forest Basketball Facebook page.

Reminder – Emergency notification systems testing begins tomorrow (Feb. 27)

Students, faculty, and staff received this message this morning to remind that tests of Wake Forest emergency alert systems will be conducted tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 27 and on Thursday, Feb. 29 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. The tests are being conducted to ensure that the University’s emergency notification systems are operating properly.

For faculty and staff families/readers of the Daily Deac, an important note is that this emergency testing will include a new feature – a full-screen desktop pop-up alert – on faculty and staff computers on the Wake Forest network or VPN. I am told students will not see the full-screen desktop pop up.

Residential Health and Safety Inspections next week

The Office of Residence Life and Housing sent out this message about upcoming Health and Safety Inspections in our residential communities.

P’27s: Letters So Dear

This week’s edition of Letters So Dear went out to our ’27 students this morning. Interested families can read it here.

Last day to reserve airport shuttle transportation for Spring Break is Thursday 2/29

This was in Letters So Dear but it is applicable to all years: “The last day to reserve shuttle transportation to the airport is on Thursday, February 29th by 5pm. If you want specific information about transportation services available to students, you can visit this website for details.”

Daffodil Project

An event this week that might be of interest to students: The Daffodil Project will take place on Thursday, Feb 29 at 4:30 pm at the Daffodil Garden behind Byrum Hall. Following the time in the garden, Margot Lobree, who was part of  the Holocaust Kindertransport, will share her story at 5 pm in the Kulynych Auditorium in Byrum/ Admissions building, and dinner afterwards with Margot.  Students can RSVP here.

Be an Earth Day Fair Volunteer (April 19-20, WS Fairgrounds)

We are looking for student volunteers for Earth Day. Students will have fun setting up exhibits, selling popcorn, handing out programs, helping clean up and everything in-between. Shifts last a couple of hours and all volunteers get a cool T-shirt to keep! Students can sign up here.
