Reminder: livestream for Dr. Wente’s presidential address

Dr. Wente’s presidential address will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at 4 p.m. at the Scales Fine Arts Center in Brendle Recital Hall. For your students: the doors will open at 3:30 p.m., and a light reception for our campus community will follow the remarks. For families, you can join the livestream here; a captioned livestream will be available on Facebook.

Pizza (and puppies!) with the Police on Thursday

I just got word of another event this Thursday that may interest your Deacs:

“Join University Police on Thursday, November 16 from 12-2:00 p.m. for Pizza with the Police.

Stop by Manchester Plaze for some free pizza, puppies, and a chance to chat with your University Police.”

Certainly for our ’27s, they could cruise down the Mag Quad after Pitsgiving and stop by to see the police as they head back to their residential communities.

Spring semester health insurance clarification

My colleague who works with our student health insurance program shared a reminder about health insurance for the spring semester. If you need to take action, note the info below:

“November 1, 2023 – January 31, 2024 students/parents can make changes to their current election to enroll/waive the Student Insurance. If you waived in Fall 2023, the waiver stays in effect for Spring 2024. If you enrolled in Fall 2023, enrollment stays in effect for Spring 2024. As a reminder, Spring 2024 coverage goes until 7/31/2024. Please contact sip@wfu.edu with any questions.”

Hours of operation for students staying for Thanksgiving break

If your Deac is staying on campus during Thanksgiving Break, encourage them to visit the hours of operation website for information about campus resources such as dining, shuttles, gym, and more. It will be important for students to plan ahead for their needs, as some venues may be closed and/or operating on reduced schedules.

Staying on campus? Thanksgiving meal pickup at Shorty’s

Is your Deac staying on campus for Thanksgiving? They can enjoy the taste of the holiday by reserving a pick-up meal. How students can reserve their meal: Email wfucater@wfu.edu or call 336.758.5601 during business hours (Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m.-5 p.m.). They must include their student ID # and any dietary restrictions. They will be charged 1 meal swipe. Meals must be reserved by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20. Your student’s holiday meal will be available for pick-up at Shorty’s on Wednesday, Nov. 22 from 11:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
