Support for our community around the Israel/Gaza conflict

In addition to the support and outreach that has been taking place from individuals and organizations on campus, Dr. Wente shared this reminder to care for ourselves and each other:

“We stand in solidarity with members of our community who are feeling fear, grief, uncertainty, anger, and confusion in response to the conflict in Israel and Gaza. These violent acts are an affront to our shared humanity. We encourage members of our community to be a source of support, compassion, and empathy for one another now and in the days ahead. In addition to the Office of the Chaplain, we encourage students seeking support to contact 336-758-CARE (2273).”

National Coming Out Day – Oct. 11

Tomorrow is National Coming Out Day, and our LGBTQ+ Center shared some thoughts about the day:

“This day recognizes the unique experience of ‘coming out’ that LGBTQ people might go through. First understanding and then sharing one’s identity can be both a liberating and scarry experience. It is often not a one-time event and each time might be met with a different reception by others. The day recognizes that potential difficulty, celebrates those who have come out, and holds space for those who do identify in the community but may not feel ready or safe to be out yet. We want to recognize that everyone goes through their own journey and wish everyone a hopeful and joyful National Coming Out Day!”

Indigenous Peoples Day acknowledgement

Yesterday was Indigenous Peoples Day, and I meant to copy over the message we had on our official Facebook page:

“On Indigenous Peoples Day, we acknowledge the land on which our campus resides, and honor the peoples, cultures, and traditions that were here before us.”

This plaque is on the Tribble Courtyard near the ZSR Library side (click to enlarge).

Volunteer with Campus Kitchen

Is your Deac looking for a meaningful way to be engaged on campus, meet other students, and give back? Encourage them to get involved with Campus Kitchen:

“Help us repurpose unused food on campus and redistribute it to those in need in our community by becoming a Campus Kitchen volunteer! Volunteers help with cooking, food recovery, and delivery shifts that repurpose unused food from campus and local grocery stores to support our local community.”

Students can also find other volunteer opportunities on campus and in the Winston-Salem community through GivePulse.
